Olympique Lyonnais, commonly known as OL or Lyon, is a professional French football club based in the Lyon metropolitan area. Founded on 3 August 1950, the club has developed into one of France's established football institutions, with a history of domestic and European competition. Its men's first team competes in French professional football and plays its home matches at the Groupama Stadium, located in Décines-Charpieu, within the Lyon metropolitan area. The stadium opened in January 2016 and is a privately owned, modern multi-purpose sporting and entertainment venue. Olympique Lyonnais has won seven consecutive French Ligue 1 championships between 2002 and 2008, alongside several Coupe de France and other domestic honours. The club is particularly recognised for its player-development system, operated through OL Academy. The academy provides structured football training and development pathways for young players, combining technical coaching, tactical education, physical preparation and performance support. The organisation has historically been associated with both men's and women's football. However, the women's team was sold to Michele Kang in February 2024 and now operates separately under the OL Lyonnes identity. The men's club and its commercial activities are part of Eagle Football Group, formerly known as OL Groupe. Its business operations include professional football, ticketing, sponsorship, advertising, broadcasting and media rights, merchandising, stadium management, events and player transfers. The club also maintains community and social responsibility initiatives through its foundation and related programmes, supporting educational, social and inclusion projects. Its principal administrative and stadium address is 10 Avenue Simone Veil, Décines-Charpieu, France. Through its professional team, youth academy, commercial activities and regional community involvement, Olympique Lyonnais remains an important football organisation in French and European sport.
