About Us

FC Lokomotiv Sofia 1929 is a Bulgarian professional football club based in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Commonly known as Lokomotiv Sofia, the club has a long history in Bulgarian football and is traditionally associated with the railway workers who established its original organisation. Founded in 1929 as Zheleznicharski Sporten Klub Sofia, the club developed into one of the country's recognised football institutions. Its traditional colours are red and black, and its nickname, “The Railwaymen,” reflects its historical connection with the railway sector. Lokomotiv Sofia plays its home matches at Lokomotiv Stadium, situated in the Nadezhda district of Sofia. The stadium has a stated capacity of approximately 22,000 spectators and serves as the centre of the club's matchday activities. Throughout its history, Lokomotiv Sofia has won four Bulgarian league championships, in 1940, 1945, 1963–64 and 1977–78. The club has also won the Bulgarian national cup four times, in 1948, 1953, 1981–82 and 1994–95, and captured the Balkan Club Cup in 1973. It has represented Bulgaria in European competitions and achieved notable results in railway-club tournaments. Lokomotiv Sofia has experienced periods of organisational change, including a forced merger with Slavia Sofia between 1969 and 1971, after which the club resumed its independent existence. In later years, the organisation worked to rebuild its professional structure and return to the highest level of Bulgarian football. The club's sporting operations include its senior men's team, youth teams and academy development activities. Its academy provides young players with coaching, competitive experience and pathways for progression, while supporting technical ability, tactical understanding, discipline and teamwork. The club also works with commercial partners, sponsors, supporters and local organisations to sustain its football activities and strengthen its community presence. Its wider functions include scouting, player recruitment, coaching, performance preparation, administration, marketing, media communications and supporter engagement. With its historical identity rooted in Sofia and its long record of domestic honours, Lokomotiv Sofia continues to contribute to Bulgarian football while pursuing competitive progress and developing emerging talent.
