Flint Town United Football Club is a semi-professional football club based in Flint, Flintshire, North Wales. The club traces its football history to 1886, when Flint FC was established, making it one of the historic football organisations in the region. The club has developed through various stages of Welsh football and became a founding member of the League of Wales in 1992. Today, Flint Town United competes in the Cymru Premier, the highest level of domestic football in Wales. The club is commonly known by the nickname “The Silkmen,” reflecting Flint’s historical connection with the textile and silk industry. Flint Town United plays its home matches at the Essity Stadium on Marsh Lane, close to Flint Castle and the Dee Estuary. The stadium is an important part of the club’s sporting and community identity and also hosts the club’s social and commercial activities. Alongside its senior men's team, Flint Town United operates an academy designed to provide a structured development pathway for young footballers. The academy covers Foundation Phase, Youth Development Phase, Academy Development Squads and a First Team Pathway. Its stated objective is to provide a professional, safe and inspiring environment where young players can develop their football ability, educational aspirations and personal character. The club places particular emphasis on long-term player development rather than simply short-term results. The academy has also contributed to the progression of young players into senior football, with numerous academy graduates making first-team appearances in recent seasons. Flint Town United also supports football across different age groups and both male and female participation, creating a broader pathway for local players. The organisation maintains relationships with local businesses and community partners through sponsorship and commercial programmes, helping strengthen the club’s regional presence. Its matchday and stadium operations also contribute to the wider community by providing a venue for sporting and social activities. In recent years, Flint Town United has strengthened its sporting infrastructure and commercial operations following its return to the top level of Welsh football. The club combines competitive senior football, youth development, academy pathways, community engagement, commercial partnerships and regional talent development while maintaining a strong connection with Flint and North Wales.
