FC Twente is a professional football club based in Enschede, Overijssel, Netherlands, and is one of the prominent football institutions in Dutch football. The club was established in 1965 through the merger of Sportclub Enschede and Enschedese Boys, creating a new club representing the wider Twente region. FC Twente is widely associated with the values of ambition, pride and “noaberschap,” a regional concept emphasizing community, solidarity and looking after one another. The club plays its home matches at De Grolsch Veste, one of the most recognizable football stadiums in the Netherlands. FC Twente competes in Dutch professional football and has a strong regional following extending beyond Enschede. The club’s greatest achievement came in the 2009–10 season, when it won the Eredivisie title for the first time in its history. FC Twente has also achieved success in domestic cup competitions and has regularly participated in European competitions. In addition to its men's first team, the organisation operates a women's football programme, youth development structures and various community initiatives. Its football academy is an important part of the club’s long-term sporting strategy, focusing on identifying and developing young players and providing pathways toward professional football. Since 2020, the youth development structure has been operated jointly with Heracles Almelo through the FC Twente/Heracles Academie. FC Twente also maintains a significant commercial and community presence in the eastern Netherlands. Through partnerships, business programmes, social projects and football-related initiatives, the club functions as more than a matchday organisation. Its community work includes programmes aimed at sport, health, education, participation and social development. The combination of professional football, youth development, women's football, commercial activities and community engagement has established FC Twente as a major sporting organisation in the Twente region and an important club within the Dutch football landscape.
