The Federación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol (FEF), known in English as the Ecuadorian Football Federation, is the national governing body responsible for organising and developing football in Ecuador. Founded on 30 May 1925, the federation has played a central role in the administration and growth of football throughout the country. It became affiliated with FIFA in 1926 and joined CONMEBOL in 1927, establishing Ecuador's place within international and South American football. The federation oversees Ecuador's national football teams, including the senior men's and women's teams and various youth selections. The men's national team is widely known as La Tri and represents Ecuador in international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, Copa América and regional qualification tournaments. The women's and youth teams provide pathways for players to represent the country across different age groups and levels of competition. FEF is responsible for national-team administration, coach development, referee education, player development and the implementation of football regulations and safeguarding standards. It also organises and supervises national competitions under its jurisdiction, including the Copa Ecuador and other federation-managed tournaments, while coordinating with professional league organisers, provincial associations, clubs and affiliated institutions. Its work extends to grassroots football, futsal, beach soccer, women's football and youth development programmes intended to broaden participation and improve competitive standards. The federation's strategic initiatives include improving sporting and administrative management, strengthening financial governance, introducing technology and modern training methodologies, and expanding opportunities for women in football. It collaborates with FIFA, CONMEBOL, clubs, sponsors, educational institutions and regional football associations to deliver development programmes and international competitions. Its headquarters are located in Guayaquil, while Casa de la Selección in Quito serves as an important training and preparation facility for Ecuador's national teams. The federation also works to promote football as a means of social inclusion, national identity and community participation. Through its national teams, competitions, technical programmes and partnerships, FEF seeks to improve the quality and organisation of Ecuadorian football while supporting athletes, coaches, referees and administrators. Its long-standing role in international football governance and its continuing investment in development make it a central institution in Ecuador's sporting landscape.
