About Us

Chippenham Town Football Club, commonly known as the Bluebirds, is a football club based in Chippenham, Wiltshire, England. The club traces its history back to 1873 and is regarded as one of the oldest football clubs in Wiltshire. Its long history includes periods of participation in the Wiltshire League, Western League and Southern League before progressing into the National League system. Chippenham Town currently competes in the National League South, the sixth tier of the English football pyramid, and plays its home matches at The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium on Bristol Road. The club has a strong connection with the local community and combines senior football with academy development, grassroots participation and inclusive football initiatives. Its academy provides structured opportunities for young players and includes development pathways covering different age groups. The club also operates an Ability Counts team, supporting inclusive participation in football. Chippenham Town's modern structure developed significantly during the late twentieth century, with the present organisational structure formed in 1996. A major milestone came in 2000 when the Bluebirds reached the final of the FA Vase at the old Wembley Stadium, playing in front of more than 20,000 spectators. This appearance helped provide a platform for further sporting and organisational growth. The club subsequently achieved back-to-back promotions from the Western League into the Southern League and then the Southern League Premier Division. Chippenham Town also places importance on youth development and local talent identification. Its academy operates from Stanley Park Sports Ground, while the senior club is based at The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium. The organisation maintains a network of local businesses and partners, using its facilities for football, community activities, business engagement and events. Its media and communications operation also supports match coverage and social-media activity across the club. Overall, Chippenham Town FC combines competitive senior football, youth development, community engagement, inclusive football, commercial partnerships and local sporting identity. Its long history, regional supporter base and commitment to developing local talent make it an established football organisation within Wiltshire and the wider English non-league football structure.
