About Us

Chesham United Football Club is an English football club based in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. The club’s present-day organisation was formed in 1917 through the merger of Chesham Town FC and Chesham Generals, although Chesham United officially recognises 1879 as its founding date to reflect the wider historical development of organised football in the town. The club is traditionally known by the nickname “The Generals” and plays its home matches at The Meadow on Amy Lane in Chesham. Chesham United has a long history in non-league English football and has competed in several regional and national divisions during its existence. One of the most notable periods in the club’s history came in the 1967/68 season, when Chesham reached the FA Amateur Cup final at Wembley Stadium in front of approximately 54,000 spectators. The club has also achieved several important league successes, including winning the Isthmian League Division One title in 1991 and the Isthmian League Premier Division title in 1993. More recently, Chesham enjoyed one of the strongest seasons in its history in 2023/24, winning its league by nine points and earning promotion to the National League for the first time. The club currently competes in the National League South. Chesham United operates men's and women's first teams as well as youth football, including a men's U18 side. The organisation has also expressed a strong commitment to developing a pathway between its youth section and senior football. Community engagement is an important part of the club's identity, with the club working closely with supporters, volunteers, local organisations and businesses. Chesham United also maintains commercial and sponsorship programmes and provides facilities at The Meadow for football and other community activities. The club is supporter-connected and has previously worked with the Chesham United Supporters' Trust as part of its governance and development. Its current structure includes a board of directors, management committee, football operations, commercial activities, media and ticketing, youth liaison and foundation/community links. With a history extending across more than a century of football in Chesham, the club combines competitive non-league football, youth development, women's football, community engagement, commercial partnerships and supporter involvement.
