Birmingham City Football Club

Boy's Academy | Part-time

As a Local Academy Scout, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing and recommending talented young players within a 90-minute radius of the Knighthead Performance Centre. Working closely with the Academy Recruitment Team, you will help ensure Birmingham City FC continues to attract high-potential players capable of progressing through the Academy system.

The role requires regular attendance at grassroots fixtures, school matches, tournaments, festivals, development centres and other football events, primarily at weekends with some evening commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess talented players across targeted age groups and positions.
  • Attend and observe grassroots, school and development football fixtures.
  • Produce detailed, objective player reports using the Club's scouting systems.
  • Monitor and track identified players through follow-up observations.
  • Share recruitment intelligence and player recommendations with the Academy Recruitment Team.
  • Support recruitment events, talent identification programmes and trial activities.
  • Build strong relationships with grassroots clubs, schools, coaches and football networks.
  • Represent Birmingham City FC professionally within the football community.

About You

Essential Requirements

  • FA Level 1 Talent ID qualification.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Strong player assessment and talent identification skills.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
  • High levels of organisation and attention to detail.
  • A good understanding of youth player development and academy football.
  • Knowledge of the local football landscape and talent pathways.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a wider scouting network.

Desirable Requirements

  • FA Level 2 Talent ID qualification.
  • Previous experience in scouting, talent identification, coaching or player recruitment.
  • Experience within a professional football club or Category One Academy environment.
  • Knowledge of the EPPP framework and Youth Development Rules.
  • Experience using scouting and player reporting platforms.
