Boy's Academy | Part-time

Birmingham City FC Academy is seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Local Academy Scout (Pre-Academy) to play a key role in identifying and recruiting the next generation of talented young players. This is an exciting opportunity to lead scouting activity within a designated region, helping to shape the future of the Academy's player pathway and recruitment strategy.

As Lead Local Academy Scout, you will oversee and coordinate pre-academy scouting activity, manage a network of scouts, and identify high-potential players across grassroots and youth football environments. Working closely with Academy recruitment and coaching staff, you will contribute to the successful identification, assessment, and recruitment of players within the Pre-Academy

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate scouting activity within an assigned geographical area.
  • Manage, support and develop a network of Pre-Academy Scouts.
  • Identify and monitor talented young players within a 90-minute radius of the Knighthead Performance Centre.
  • Attend grassroots matches, school fixtures, Talent ID events, development centres and other football environments.
  • Produce detailed player assessments and recruitment recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate recruitment records and scouting reports.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with grassroots clubs, schools, county FAs and coaching organisations.
  • Support the planning and delivery of Talent ID events, festivals and trial programmes.
  • Act as a positive ambassador for Birmingham City FC Academy within the football community.

About You

Essential Requirements

  • FA Level 2 Talent ID qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong leadership, organisation and people management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong IT skills and experience using recruitment/reporting systems.
  • Experience managing, mentoring or supporting scouting and/or coaching staff.
  • Good understanding of youth player development pathways and the EPPP framework.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Desirable Requirements

  • FA Level 3 Talent ID qualification.
  • FA Safeguarding qualification.
  • Experience working within a Category One Academy.
  • Understanding of audit, compliance and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong football network and ability to share best practice with colleagues.
