The Department

The Finance Department plays a pivotal role at the Club in supporting our long-term ambitions both on and off the pitch. Operating at the heart of a fast-paced, high-performance environment, it is the engine that keeps our Club stable and able to compete sustainably. The team provides the insight and control that underpin our decisions – from managing budgets and cash flow to overseeing player transfers and regulatory reporting.

The Role

You will help departmental budget holders understand their financial performance and support the day-to-day decisions that keep the Club moving forward. Reporting to the Head of Finance – FP&A, you will develop your business partnering skills with guidance from senior Finance colleagues.

You will work with departmental contacts and Management Accounts colleagues to check financial information, investigate variances and prepare clear reports and commentary. You will also collect and review budget and forecast inputs, maintain trackers and help colleagues understand expenditure and the reasons behind changes in performance.

Alongside this, you will update financial models and support business cases, scenario analysis and the assessment of potential costs and returns using agreed assumptions. You will help identify opportunities to improve value and reporting processes, follow financial controls and raise significant issues with senior colleagues for review.

The Person

To be considered for the role, you will be a finalist or newly qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent), or bring relevant practical finance experience and a willingness to develop further. You will have some experience in a finance, accounting or analytical role, which may have been gained through a placement or internship.

You will enjoy working with numbers, take a methodical approach to checking information and be able to explain your findings clearly. Good Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas and data analysis, confidence using Microsoft Office and the ability to organise your work to meet agreed deadlines are essential. You will build positive relationships with Finance and non-finance colleagues and know when to seek support.

You will need a UK driving license with the ability to travel between Villa Park, our London Office and Bodymoor Heath Training Ground. Flexibility to support matchdays, evenings, weekends and other stadium events would also be beneficial.
