Help young players succeed in the classroom as well as on the pitch.

At Charlton Athletic’s Boys Academy, education is a vital part of a young player’s development. We’re looking for an Academy Education Lead who cares deeply about helping children achieve academically while pursuing their football ambitions, and who can build the relationships that make both possible.

Reporting to the Head of Education and Welfare, you’ll lead education for players aged 9–16 across our Foundation and Youth Development phases. This is an opportunity to connect each player’s school life with their academy experience, making sure their learning, progress and wellbeing receive consistent attention.

You’ll work directly with schools, families and coaches to understand how players are progressing, spot concerns early and agree practical support. By gathering school reports, maintaining clear records and building regular contact with teachers, you’ll help ensure that each player’s educational needs are understood and acted on.

A central part of the role is coordinating our U15/U16 hybrid training programme. You’ll manage induction and agreements with schools and parents, track attendance and attainment, and provide half-termly feedback to schools. You’ll use that insight to review whether the programme remains appropriate for each player and adapt their education support as their needs change.

Alongside academic progress, you’ll contribute to the Player Care education programme, covering areas such as social media, nutrition and mental skills. You’ll support the academy safeguarding team with welfare concerns and school visits, and take on designated safeguarding responsibilities at weekend fixtures.

We’re looking for a qualified teacher who can earn the trust of young people and work confidently with the adults around them. You’ll bring sound judgement, strong organisation and a practical understanding of the pressures of an elite sporting environment. Above all, you’ll see the individual learner behind every player.

You’ll bring:

A degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Experience teaching at secondary level and an understanding of an elite sporting environment.

Up-to-date safeguarding knowledge and knowledge or experience of working with external agencies on young people’s welfare.

Clear communication with children, families and professionals, and the organisation to coordinate support across schools and the academy.

A collaborative approach and a keen interest in sport and football.

If you want to give young players the educational support and confidence to keep their future options open, we’d like to hear from you. Apply via [insert application link] by [insert closing date]. We may close the vacancy early.

Charlton Athletic is committed to safeguarding children and young people and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. Appointment is subject to satisfactory references, identity and right-to-work checks, and an Enhanced DBS check.
