Job PurposeNewport County AFC Academy is seeking a part-time U8–U10 Age Group Coach to deliver its coaching syllabus and support the holistic development of players within the Foundation Phase. This role plays a key part in providing a fun, engaging and age-appropriate learning environment to help players fall in love with the game.
RemunerationDependent on qualifications and experience
Role Responsibilities & Key Duties
1Promote Newport County AFC values and maintain a respectful, safe, and inclusive coaching environment for young players.
2Plan, deliver, and reflect on engaging coaching sessions in line with the Academy’s Foundation Phase curriculum and coaching framework.
3Use age-appropriate methods to support individual and team development (ball mastery, 1v1s, small-sided games).
4Record attendance and session notes using Academy systems (e.g., Football iP).
5Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and contribute to regular development updates.
6Support the creation and delivery of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) every 6–12 weeks.
7Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff (coaching, medical, sports science, analysis) to support player needs.
8Ensure safeguarding and player welfare are prioritised at all times.
9Attend weekend fixtures, in-house festivals and CPD events as required.
10Uphold all Club policies including Health & Safety, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
11Maintain training equipment and ensure high coaching standards across sessions.
12Undertake ongoing CPD in line with EFL and Club expectations.
13Assist with player recruitment and trial events when required.
14Carry out any other duties as directed by the Academy Manager or Phase Lead.

About The Candidate

Qualifications

Essential

  • FA Level 2 / UEFA C Licence
  • FA Youth Award / Introduction to Coaching Football
  • Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF)
  • Enhanced DBS Check

Desirable

  • UEFA B Licence

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of Foundation Phase coaching
  • Experience working with 5–11 age group
  • Knowledge of EPPP & Youth Development structures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • IT proficiency (e.g., Football iP, Microsoft Office)

Desirable

  • Experience with talent ID or grassroots engagement
