Jobs4Football Success Story: Matthew Towns
From Malta to Saudi Arabia – A Journey of Persistence and Transformation
The story of
Matthew Towns encapsulates the very spirit of resilience, adaptability, and ambition that the
Jobs4Football Accelerator membership aims to nurture in every member. Hailing from England but working in Malta, Matthew has been an active member of the Accelerator for over a year, embodying an unwavering commitment to his professional growth and new horizons within the global football industry.
Early in his journey, Matthew experienced the familiar challenges faced by many football professionals today: numerous applications, intense interviews, and occasional rejections. What set Matthew apart, however, was his ability to turn setbacks into opportunities for improvement. Each stage brought valuable feedback, which Matthew consistently harnessed to refine his profile, ensuring his competitive edge never dulled.
Through close collaboration with the
Jobs4Football Employability Team, Matthew undertook a comprehensive overhaul of his CV, leveraging insights on what truly captures the attention of international employers. With tailored workshops, hands-on LinkedIn support, and networking-driven CV profiling, the Accelerator team provided the strategic guidance required to make Matthew’s experience and potential stand out on the global stage.
The journey extended far beyond technical upskilling. Our ongoing partnership evolved into a genuine friendship, marked by continuous education about the realities and rewards of working across diverse regions—including the Gulf and Asia. Empowered by bespoke employability support, Matthew became fluent not only in adapting his profile but also in learning the nuances of cross-border opportunities.
This remarkable persistence has now culminated in a new chapter: Matthew Towns joins the
NEOM SC Goalkeeping Department in Saudi Arabia. His success stands testament to the impact of the Jobs4Football Accelerator and the power of continuous professional development, coupled with tailored, personal support.
Matthew stated:
"Nick and the team have helped during my transition from a Professional Goalkeeper, to now shaping my coaching career. Having worked with multiple Elite Goalkeepers and developed Players and Goalkeepers in Malta at the development phases all the way through to Senior and International Level, I wanted to focus on my own career pathway to be the best coach I can be outside of my comfort zone. Nick and the team constantly delivered the tools needed which helped me focus on maximising my potential and developing my own journey ."
Nick Mccreery CEO, Jobs4football stated:
"Matthew Towns exemplified what it truly means to trust the process. His relentless engagement, commitment to upskilling, and openness to employability feedback made him a sponge for learning, never deterred by application rejections or interview setbacks. Instead, he embraced challenges as opportunities to grow, demonstrating resilience and a continual drive to refine his skills and pursue his goals with unwavering determination."
Matthew’s journey should inspire all Jobs4football members to keep refining, keep connecting, keep learning and never underestimate the transformative power of perseverance and expert support.
