Street League

    About Us

Street League is a UK-based charity that uses the power of sport, particularly football, to tackle youth unemployment, poverty and social exclusion. The organisation's origins date to 2001, when Dr Damian Hatton established a football league in London to engage and support people experiencing homelessness. Street League was formally incorporated and registered as a charity in 2003, marking the beginning of its development as a national organisation using sport as a pathway to employment and social opportunity. Today, Street League focuses primarily on young people aged 16–30 who live in some of the UK's most disadvantaged communities. Its programmes combine sport and physical activity with employability support, education, qualifications and practical assistance designed to help participants progress into sustained employment, mainstream education or training. The Charity Commission describes its core activity as using structured football, fitness, dance fitness and associated education programmes to help unemployed people overcome barriers and move towards work or further learning. Street League's delivery model is based around local academies and regional teams operating across England and Scotland. Participants can develop skills, gain qualifications, improve confidence and wellbeing, and receive support with their transition into employment or further education. The organisation works with corporate, charitable and community partners to provide funding, volunteering, work experience, employment opportunities and other forms of support for young people. Sport remains central to the organisation's identity, but Street League's purpose extends beyond football participation. Its programmes recognise the relationship between physical activity, mental wellbeing, confidence, education and employment. The organisation therefore uses sport as an engagement tool through which young people can address practical and personal barriers while building skills relevant to the workplace. Street League is registered as charity number 1101313 in England and charity number SC038884 in Scotland. Its registered contact address is Unit 2.4, Waulk Mill, Bengal Street, Manchester, M4 6LN. The Charity Commission's latest available reporting records 124 employees and 164 volunteers, while Street League's own website states that more than 130 staff work across its 11 regional offices. The organisation continues to position itself around the goal of helping young people build brighter and more secure futures through sport, education, training and employment. Its current programmes and partnerships demonstrate a nationwide approach to using football and other physical activities as practical tools for social mobility and employability.
