    About Us

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is a professional soccer club based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, competing in the United Soccer League Championship (USL Championship). The club was founded on March 11, 1998, by Pennsylvania native Paul Heasley, with the objective of establishing a professional soccer presence in Pittsburgh and creating a pathway for young players in the region to pursue professional careers. The Riverhounds played their inaugural season in 1999 and have since developed into one of the established professional soccer organisations in the United States.  The club currently plays its home matches at F.N.B. Stadium in Pittsburgh's Station Square area. The stadium, formerly known as Highmark Stadium, became the Riverhounds' permanent home in 2013 after a series of venue changes during the club's earlier years. The Riverhounds' front-office address is listed at 510 W. Station Square Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  A major milestone in the club's history came in 2025, when Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC won its first USL Championship title. The USL reported that the victory represented the club's first league championship in its 26-year history. The Riverhounds had previously won the 2023 USL Championship Players' Shield after finishing the regular season with the league's best record.  Player development is a central component of the organisation. The Riverhounds operate the Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA), with academy locations serving the Pittsburgh region and surrounding communities. The club provides youth training, competitive programmes, camps, tournaments and specialised development opportunities, including goalkeeper, speed and strength and private-training programmes. The organisation's stated vision from its founding has been closely connected to providing young players with a pathway toward professional soccer.  The club has also expanded its football structure beyond its USL Championship first team. In 2026, Pittsburgh launched Riverhounds 2, a pre-professional team competing in USL League Two. The new side provides an additional competitive development pathway and began its inaugural season in the Great Forest Division.  Community engagement is another important part of the Riverhounds' operations. The club runs programmes designed to connect professional soccer with local schools, youth organisations and community groups, while its R.I.S.E. programme provides participating organisations with opportunities for fundraising, coaching clinics and other benefits.  The Riverhounds maintain a professional front office covering sporting operations, stadium operations, marketing, communications, corporate partnerships, ticketing and merchandise. The club also maintains an active digital presence through its official website and social-media channels under the @RiverhoundsSC identity.
