The Malta Football Association (Malta FA) is the national governing body for football in Malta and Gozo, with responsibility for organising, promoting and protecting the game across the country. The Association’s official history recognises 1900 as its birth year, and UEFA’s 2025/26 European Football Directory also records 1900 as its year of formation. Malta FA is headquartered at the Millennium Stand of the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali and operates as a non-profit organisation. Its mission is centred on developing football in Malta and Gozo in accordance with the Laws of the Game and without discrimination. The Association oversees a broad football structure encompassing the men’s and women’s national teams, youth national teams, futsal, domestic leagues, knockout competitions, referee development and football education. Its current competition structure includes the Malta Premier, women’s league, amateur leagues, youth competitions, FA Trophy, Super Cups and other national competitions. Malta FA also places significant emphasis on technical development and coach education, including UEFA diploma programmes and specialist football fitness qualifications delivered through its Technical Centre. In recent years, the Association has continued investing in football infrastructure, strengthening relationships with member clubs and expanding opportunities for women’s and youth football. Its 2024–25 administrative reporting highlighted substantial growth in digital engagement, including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, while its current digital platforms provide news, competition information, national-team content and educational resources. Malta FA is affiliated with UEFA and FIFA and represents Malta internationally through its national teams and other representative sides. UEFA records its current headquarters at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali, with Bjorn Vassallo as President and Dr Maria Azzopardi as General Secretary.
