Koninklijke Nederlandse Zwembond (KNZB), the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation, is the national governing body for aquatic sports in the Netherlands. Established in 1888, it is one of the country's oldest sports federations and is responsible for the governance, promotion, and development of swimming, para swimming, water polo, artistic swimming, diving, and open water swimming. Headquartered in Nieuwegein, the KNZB works with hundreds of affiliated clubs and serves approximately 130,000 members across the Netherlands. The federation organizes national championships, leagues, cup competitions, coach and referee education, talent identification programmes, and athlete development pathways from grassroots participation to elite performance. It is responsible for selecting and preparing Dutch national teams for European Championships, World Championships, Olympic Games, and Paralympic Games while working closely with international governing bodies including World Aquatics and European Aquatics. Beyond elite sport, the KNZB promotes swimming participation, water safety, club development, inclusion, and lifelong involvement in aquatic sports. The organisation also supports volunteers, develops educational resources, implements safeguarding and governance standards, and collaborates with clubs, municipalities, and commercial partners to strengthen aquatic sports nationwide. The KNZB Campus and national training programmes provide high-performance support in coaching, sports science, medical services, and athlete welfare. Through continuous investment in innovation, community engagement, and sustainable organisational development, the federation aims to maintain the Netherlands' strong international reputation in aquatic sports while increasing participation and ensuring high-quality opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials, and clubs at every level of the sport.
