Inter Miami CF, officially named Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, is a professional football club based in Miami, Florida, competing in Major League Soccer (MLS). The club was officially announced and launched as MLS's 25th franchise on January 29, 2018, before beginning competitive play in the 2020 MLS season. Its creation represented the return of top-level professional football to the Miami market following the departure of the Miami Fusion after the 2001 season. Both the club and Major League Soccer identify 2018 as the beginning of the Inter Miami project. Inter Miami was founded around a vision of building a globally recognised football organisation while maintaining a strong connection with South Florida. The club's identity incorporates Miami's international and multicultural character, reflected in its name, crest, colours and motto, “Libertas. Unitas. Fortuna.” The organisation is privately held and LinkedIn identifies Miami, Florida, as its headquarters. The club's sporting structure extends beyond its MLS first team. Inter Miami operates Inter Miami CF II in MLS NEXT Pro as a bridge between the academy and first team, while its academy provides youth development programmes and competitive teams across multiple age groups. The club's official history records its academy participating internationally even before the MLS first team began play, including the U-17/U-18 team's participation in the 2019 K League U-17 Championship in South Korea. Player development has subsequently become an important component of the organisation. Inter Miami has produced multiple Homegrown players, including Felipe Valencia, Edison Azcona, Noah Allen, Ian Fray, David Ruiz and Benjamin Cremaschi, demonstrating the pathway from the academy and second team to MLS football. Inter Miami achieved its first major trophy in 2023, winning the inaugural Leagues Cup after defeating Nashville SC on penalties. The club subsequently made further progress on the international stage and, in 2025, won the MLS Cup for the first time in its history. The club's official history identifies the 2025 MLS Cup as its fourth trophy. The arrival of Lionel Messi in July 2023 significantly increased the club's international profile. Messi subsequently signed a contract extension through the 2028 MLS season, while former Barcelona players Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suárez also joined the project. In 2026, Inter Miami entered a new era with its move to Miami Freedom Park and its new home, Nu Stadium, located in Miami.
