Description
We are looking for a Sport Psychologist to join our high performing and collaborative team in Bristol on a part time (2.5 days per week) consultancy basis. Please note that attendance at all home games is required.
What you can expect to get involved in
- Play an important role in developing a psychologically informed high-performance environment across Bristol City Women as the club continues to evolve on and off the pitch.
- Deliver evidence based psychological support to players and coaches to enhance performance, wellbeing, resilience, and the ability to consistently perform under pressure within elite women’s football.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, building strong relationships across Performance, Medical, Coaching, and Player Wellbeing departments, with a particular focus on integrated player support alongside the Performance & Wellbeing Lead.
- Support players through the psychological demands of elite football including injury rehabilitation, return to play, performance transitions, and the management of pressure throughout the season.
- Deliver individual, small group, and team interventions aligned to training, competition, and player development objectives.
- Contribute to the development of clear frameworks, processes, and support strategies that strengthen psychological provision within a growing high-performance environment.
- Support coaches and staff in developing effective communication, leadership, and behaviours that positively impact both performance and culture.
- Contribute to creating an environment where players and staff can thrive, develop, and consistently perform at the level required to support the club’s ambitions moving forward.
- Support the delivery of workshops, education sessions, and wellbeing initiatives that promote high performance habits and personal development across the programme.
- Maintain high professional standards across confidentiality, safeguarding, record keeping, and clinical governance.
- Attendance at all home fixtures.
Skills & Experience
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of psychological support to high-performance sporting teams, organisations, and individuals.
- Experience in providing performance impacting psychological support to tactical / decision playing sports, specifically women’s team sports.
- Experience of providing support that targets the optimisation of team dynamics / behaviour.
- Knowledge and experience of the women’s game.
- Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to positively influence players, coaches, and staff.
- Experience supporting individuals performing under pressure within demanding environments.
- Ability to balance performance enhancement with player wellbeing and holistic support.
Essential Qualifications
- MSc in Psychology / Sport Psychology.
- British Psychological Society Chartered Status or CASES Accredited (or equivalent).
- Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (“HCPC”) in the UK or holds membership with an equivalent professional organisation such as the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (“AASP”) in the United States, or relevant national councils in other countries.
- Safeguarding and Protecting Children / FA.
- Safeguarding Children (acquired before starting role).
- DBS Clearance / Enhanced FA CRC check (acquired before starting the role).
- Mental Health England First Aid Certification.
- UKAD Clean Sport qualification.
