THE ROLE
Working within the First Team Recruitment Department and reporting to the Head of Recruitment, the Lead Technical Scout will take ownership of the Club's technical scouting process across designated strategic markets, combining video scouting, live observation and data intelligence to identify players capable of playing and winning for Rangers FC.
Working closely with the Chief Scout, Scouting Co-ordinator and Data Insights Lead, the role will manage the Club's Data Standouts Technical Scouting workstream, chair regular Technical Scouting Meetings, and recommend players for further review by senior recruitment staff. During transfer windows, the Lead Technical Scout will support the production of technical reports, player videos and recruitment presentation material.
The role carries ownership of technical scouting coverage across Serbia, Austria and Portugal, with responsibility for developing expert market knowledge and succession planning in these territories.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Scouting
- Take ownership of technical scouting coverage across Serbia, Austria and Portugal.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive market knowledge within assigned territories.
- Maintain technical watchlists, succession plans and ongoing player monitoring.
- Produce high-quality technical scouting reports and player recommendations to support recruitment decision-making.
- Ensure players within assigned markets are continually assessed against the Club's recruitment priorities.
Data & Technical Scouting
- Manage the Club's Data Standouts Technical Scouting workstream, ensuring all players identified through data receive a comprehensive technical assessment.
- Work collaboratively with the Data Insights Lead to review data outputs, player benchmarking and recruitment visualisations.
- Provide technical context to data-led recommendations through detailed video analysis.
- Recommend appropriate players from the Data Standouts process for progression into the senior recruitment review process.
- Ensure the Club's technical scouting watchlists remain current, accurate and aligned with recruitment priorities.
Technical Scouting Meetings
- Coordinate and chair the weekly Technical Scouting Meeting.
- Facilitate discussion around new technical recommendations, Data Standouts and priority players.
- Ensure actions arising from meetings are communicated and progressed with the relevant recruitment staff.
- Encourage consistency in technical player evaluation across the department.
Recruitment Analysis
- Support the Scouting Co-ordinator in delivering recruitment analysis throughout transfer windows.
- Produce technical dossiers, player comparison reports, video playlists and presentation material for recruitment meetings.
- Assist in preparing recruitment evidence for the Head of Recruitment, Chief Scout, Technical Director, Performance Director and First Team coaching staff.
- Ensure technical information is presented clearly, accurately and within required timescales during transfer windows.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with the Data Insights Lead to improve the integration of data and technical scouting processes.
- Contribute to the development of recruitment visualisations that enhance player evaluation and decision-making.
- Promote consistent technical scouting methodologies and best practice across the department.
- Identify opportunities to improve technical scouting workflows and recruitment efficiency.
THE CANDIDATE
Knowledge & Experience
- Relevant academic/vocational qualifications or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience working within professional football in a scouting or analysis role.
- Broad understanding of talent identification and recruitment processes.
- Broad knowledge or domestic & international markets.
- Completed or working towards FA Level 3 Talent Identification qualification – desirable.
Technical Skills
- Excellent technical ability to illustrate a player’s playing profile, including their strengths &
weaknesses, using software such as HUDL Sportscode, HUDL Studio & Piero. - Experience of applying data to support the talent identification and recruitment process
successfully. - Excellent video editing and presentation skills.
