About The Role/s

We are deeply passionate about the grassroots game across Staffordshire. We are committed to making it accessible to everyone who wants to be involved, whether as a player, coach, volunteer and everyone who works with us and for us. Our mission is to support Staffordshire Football in creating safe, inclusive environments where individuals can pursue and achieve their football aspirations.

This development role is vital in developing and supporting the development of our football workforce, particularly the 4,100 coaches and 3,900 volunteers working across our 2,600 teams, proving a crucial personal development offer to support the backbone of grassroots football season after season.

As grassroots football continues to develop, exciting changes are on the horizon including the introduction of 3v3 formats and updates to youth pathways for the 2026/27 season. These changes bring fresh opportunities, but also a responsibility to support the people who make the game happen.

We’re committed to helping parents, coaches, and volunteers build their knowledge, foster positive behaviours, and feel confident in their roles. By doing so, we’ll ensure that new participants not only feel welcome but are inspired to stay involved for the long term.

Key Objectives

As our Football Workforce Officer, your work will directly support our vision to Support, Develop, Unite and Protect grassroots football across Staffordshire.

Support Strategic Delivery
Contribute to the implementation of The FA National Game Strategy and Staffordshire FA Business Strategy. Promote and embed FA safeguarding standards and safer practices across grassroots football.

Coach Development
Coordinate and deliver a County-wide Coach Development Programme. Deliver CPD, mentoring, and support for coaches at all levels. Manage and deploy a diverse team of Casual Coach Developers. Ensure Coach Developers meet licensing and quality standards.

Volunteer Development
Provide personal and collective development opportunities for existing volunteers whilst establishing key engagement programmes for new volunteers entering the game. Lead the Staffordshire FA Volunteer Development Strategy to maximise the value grassroots football volunteers have.

Club Development
Engage and support 2-star and 3-star England Football Accredited Clubs. Help clubs complete assessments under the Thriving Community Clubs Framework, especially the Coaching and volunteering pillars. Assist clubs in developing sustainable Coach Development and Volunteer plans and programmes.

Workforce Growth & Support
Understand and support volunteer workforce needs within clubs. Support delivery of programmes for volunteer retention, match official development, and behavioural management. Promote diversity, inclusion, and equality across the coaching and volunteer workforce.

Accreditation & Incentives
Assist clubs with their annual England Football Accreditation renewal. Support clubs in writing and implementing development plans. Develop and implement localised incentives and rewards for Accredited Clubs.

Stakeholder Engagement
Build relationships with volunteers and paid staff, the casual workforce, and strategic partners. Collaborate with internal Staffordshire FA colleagues to deliver shared objectives.

Reward & Recognition
Lead Staffordshire Football’s Thank You, Grassroots Awards and Youth Engagement Programmes, ensuring people feel valued in their role with recognition from their peers.

Monitoring & Evaluation
Use data to monitor and evaluate coaching and workforce programmes. Ensure continuous improvement through strategic planning and feedback.

What will you need?

This role is about developing people and strengthening grassroots football across Staffordshire. It’s for someone who understands what coaching represents: growth, opportunity, and the future of grassroots football. We’re looking for someone who sees beyond the session plan. Someone who understands the impact a great coach can have on a player, a team, and a community. You’ll combine technical expertise with emotional intelligence, valuing both the quality of the coaching and the people who give up their time to make it happen.

You’ll work closely with England Football Accredited Clubs, helping them align with national frameworks and deliver high-quality experiences. You’ll lead coach and volunteer development initiatives, mentor individuals, and manage a team of Coach Developers (Coaching role only) to ensure every club has access to the support they need.

At its core, this role is about connection, leadership, and impact. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, champion safeguarding and inclusion, and use technology to make football more accessible and efficient.

You’ll be the person who listens, supports, and inspires. Who knows that behind every fixture are volunteers, coaches, parents, and players relying on someone to make it all work. You’ll help clubs build sustainable structures, mentor individuals, and create environments where everyone can thrive.

You’ll be the driving force behind programmes that improve coaching standards, support club development, and grow a diverse, skilled volunteer workforce.

This role will engage directly with volunteers across the grassroots game. Regular evening work will be required along with weekends as needed to meet the requirements of our football workforce.

Relationship builder
You’ll work with a wide range of stakeholders, coaches, volunteers, officials and parents. You know how to listen, empathise, collaborate, and build trust.

You’ll manage multiple programmes, deadlines, and relationships. You’re someone who gets things done.

You’re comfortable using systems like the Club Portal and other FA tech tools. You’ll help others navigate them too, with patience and clarity.

Full, clean driving licence
You’ll be out and about across Staffordshire, supporting clubs and communities therefore a full driving licence and access to a car is essential.

What will you be doing?

The Staffordshire football workforce is the heartbeat of the game, and your job is to help it thrive.

You’ll work closely with clubs to develop coaches and volunteers across all levels, from new volunteers and parents to experienced UEFA C and UEFA B coaches. You’ll provide high-quality, practical support that helps coaches and volunteers feel confident, capable, and valued.

You’ll also support wider club and volunteer development, helping teams manage behaviour, build inclusive environments, and grow their off-field workforce. These are the people who give up their evenings and weekends to keep football running and you’ll be there to support them.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring our England Football Accredited clubs have access to the tools, guidance, and support they need to deliver safe, positive football experiences across Staffordshire along with supporting our wider off field services. You will work alongside our staff to deliver training, workshops and events to enhance our overall service across the game.
