A professional football club competing in the Saudi Pro League is seeking an experienced Club Doctor to join its first-team medical and performance department.
This is a senior medical position requiring a doctor with experience working within elite professional sport, ideally professional football, together with previous professional experience in the Middle East.
The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the medical care of first-team players, working closely with physiotherapists, sports scientists, strength and conditioning staff, coaching staff and club management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical care to first-team players.
- Assess, diagnose and manage football-related injuries and illnesses.
- Lead medical decision-making regarding player availability, treatment and return-to-play.
- Manage acute injuries and medical emergencies during training and matches.
- Attend first-team training sessions, fixtures and competitions as required.
- Coordinate specialist consultations, investigations, imaging and external medical treatment.
- Work closely with physiotherapists and performance staff to develop rehabilitation and return-to-play programmes.
- Conduct player medical assessments and pre-signing medical examinations.
- Monitor player health, illness, recovery and overall medical wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
- Advise coaching and performance staff on player medical status while maintaining appropriate medical confidentiality.
- Develop and maintain medical protocols, emergency action plans and best-practice procedures.
- Liaise with hospitals, consultants and other medical providers when specialist care is required.
- Support preventative medicine, player screening and injury-risk management.
- Ensure the club's medical department operates to a high professional and ethical standard.
Essential Requirements
Candidates must have:
- A recognised medical degree and appropriate postgraduate medical qualifications.
- Professional medical registration in their home country.
- Eligibility to obtain the necessary professional registration/licensing to practise in Saudi Arabia.
- Previous experience working as a doctor within elite professional sport.
- Previous professional experience working in the Middle East.
- Strong experience in sports medicine, musculoskeletal injuries and athlete healthcare.
- Experience managing acute sporting injuries and medical emergencies.
- An excellent understanding of rehabilitation and return-to-play processes.
- Strong communication and multidisciplinary working skills.
- High levels of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively within a high-performance, multicultural environment.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and travel with the first team when required.
Desirable
- Previous experience within professional football.
- Experience within a top-flight football club, national team or elite sporting organisation.
- Postgraduate qualification in Sports & Exercise Medicine or a related discipline.
- Experience conducting football player medical examinations and transfer medicals.
- Previous experience working within Saudi Arabia or the Gulf region.
- Arabic language skills would be advantageous but are not essential.
