All professional football clubs have an Academy Manager, they are responsible for implementing the clubs youth development program and the day to day management of the academy staff and players.

One of their most important roles is to develop all players in the clubs youth teams and support their pathway into the First Team while adhering to the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) rules and regulations.

An Academy Manager will manage all the academy staff and has responsibility for the budget across the whole academy working with all appropriate governing bodies, (The Premier League, EFL & FA) providing them with the necessary information as and when they require it, fully co-operating and supporting them with their requests.

They will also need experience in talent ID when assessing players on trial or watching potential signings in live games.

The Academy Manager is also responsible for the academy’s reputation both within the club, the community and in football through dialogue with the Board, the First Team Management, parents, schools, local football clubs colleges and universities.

What is an Academy Manager Salary?


The salary for a football academy manager can change a lot from country to country with a top Premer League Academy Manager earning upward of £60,000 per season.

What Experience and Qualifications Will You Need to be an Academy Manager?


If you want to become an Academy Manager you will need to have past experience of working within a management role - directing staff and task to others.

Good knowledge and experience of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) guidelines and requirements will also help when applying for this position.

You will need good communication and problem-solving skills while being able to lead a team and have a keen eye for detail.

Minimum qualifications would be a UEFA A licence, FA Safeguarding and FA Youth Award with an Advanced Youth Award and Coach Education qualification being advantageous.
