Role Purpose
Supports the Analysis Department by delivering match data insights for pre- and post-match preparation, opponent analysis, and set-piece analysis. Builds and maintains reports, workflows, and analytical models that turn match data into clear, actionable outputs for coaches and analysts. This is a remote, part-time role.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Key Accountabilities & Activities
· Deliver pre-match opponent analysis using match data (trends, styles, key players, strengths/weaknesses) and present findings in an actionable format.
· Produce post-match performance reports and KPI reviews (team, unit and player level) with clear visuals, key takeaways, and follow-up questions.
· Lead set-piece data analysis (own and opponent) including routine cataloging, delivery/target zones, matchups, and outcome tracking.
· Build and maintain automated workflows, dashboards, and analytical models in Python/SQL (including API integrations) to support match-week reporting.
· Ensure data quality, documentation, and reproducibility of analysis; respond to ad-hoc match-week questions and collaborate effectively in a remote setup.
BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
· Strong understanding of football tactics and match analysis processes (pre-match, post-match, opponent and set-piece).
· Proven experience working with football match/event data (Opta/StatsBomb/Wyscout or similar) and strong attention to data quality and definitions.
· Strong coding skills in Python and SQL, with ability to build repeatable analysis pipelines and simple predictive / descriptive models.
· Experience working with APIs to extract and refresh data; comfortable with automation and clear documentation.
· Strong communication skills: able to create clear data visualisations and presentations for coaches; effective collaboration in a remote, part-time environment.
Qualifications
· Previous experience working in a professional football club (first team) delivering match analysis outputs is required.
· No formal education requirement; proven practical experience in pre/post-match, opponent and set-piece data analysis is required (examples/portfolio preferred).
