Brazilian wonderkid declares Liverpool her transfer dream

Joao Gomes, Flamengo’s highly-rated midfielder, has expressed his “great desire” for Liverpool. He was asked by his fans whether he would like to play in the Premier League one day and which clubs he prefers while he was participating in a live-streaming session via Instagram.

He replied, “Liverpool are a club I would play for. I want to play. My biggest dream and that of my family is to play in the Champions League, is to be a part of it. Flamengo has a rich history of bringing through a variety of top South American talent, and Gomes looks set to be their next star.

He is still only 21 years old, but he has made 93 senior appearances for Brazil and is a key player at the heart of their midfield.

He’s 5ft9in tall, but he has a lot of technical ability. This makes him a vital cog in possession. He is versatile and can play in either a double pivot or number eight. He will be rotated between them depending on the team’s needs.

It shouldn’t surprise that he was mentioned in reports as being on Manchester United’s radar. Red Devils are obviously keen to add quality and depth in their midfield and have sent scouts to see the 21-year old in person. Liverpool are also expected be looking for a new midfielder.

Their recent injury crisis may mean they might even try to negotiate a deal before the summer’s end. Reports suggest that it could cost as much as? £32 million to take Gomes from Flamengo. This is a significant sum for a young player who has yet to prove himself beyond South America.
