Unai Emery returns to the English Premier League to coach Aston Villa

Unai Emery has returned to the Premier League to take over as coach of Aston Villa, succeeding Steven Gerrard.

Aston Villa recently sacked Gerrard after losing to Fulham in the 11th round of the English Premier League with a 3-0 win.

Aston Villa announced on its official website that the former Villarreal coach will take over the job, starting from the first of next November.

And the newspaper “The Athletic” revealed a meeting that took place today between the Villa and Emery management, and the English club is scheduled to pay the coach’s penalty clause with Villarreal, which is 5.25 million pounds.

Emery, who knows the English Premier League well, from when he was Arsenal’s coach, usually enters press conferences with the phrase “Good evening”, but with a Spanish accent, which has ridiculed many followers.

Emery’s most remarkable achievement with Arsenal was qualifying for the European League final and losing to Chelsea before he left in November 2019.

The Spaniard then took charge at Villarreal for the 2020-21 season. During that season, Emery’s team beat Arsenal and Manchester United on their way to winning the Europa League.

Emery previously coached Sevilla between 2016 and 2019, winning the European League three times.

Aston Villa is 14th in the Premier League after beating Brentford by four on Sunday in their first game without Gerrard of the season.
