Objective of the role

  • To assist the Academy Manager in the delivery of the Youth Development phase of the Elite player performance plan

  • To assist the Head of Coaching in ensuring that players graduating to the professional phase do so with a high degree of technical and tactical ability

  • Monitor and report on individual player development through the Performance Clock.


Key Tasks leading to developing players of the required standard to achieve excellence at specific age bandings

  • Monitor the transition of players from the Foundation Phase to the Youth Development Phase.

  • To integrate with all Academy department staff to deliver a holistic development programme for all players.

  • Assist in delivery of the phase programme coaching 1 session per week.

  • Implement, coordinate and manage the Youth Development Phase day School holiday programme.

  • Specialist trained to ensure that players graduating from the phase at U16 have built upon the core ball mastery skills, tactical awareness in their role in the team, physical objectives recognised & plan of action activated.

  • Assist in the reporting and monitoring of performance, recording, reporting and evaluation of Academy Players in the Development Phase

  • Assist in the monitoring and supervision of the game programme (Development Phase)

  • Take part in all relevant meetings including six weekly multidisciplinary reviews, in service training, parents meetings etc. at the request of the Academy Manager

  • Show a continuous commitment to personal development through relevant bodies and courses

  • Assist the Head of Coaching in the Coaches CPD training programme.

  • Undertake enhancement of specific personal Qualifications and all CPD provided by the Club and regulatory bodies.

  • Undertake any reasonable request as set by the Academy Manager.

  • Ensure that all match day preparations inclusive of pitch set up is completed before the players arrive

  • Ensure that ILP session are planned and delivered to meet the individual needs of the player

  • Weekly Meetings documented with Part time staff, ensuring all staff receive key information.

  • Assist the Part Time Youth Development Phase Coaches ensuring continuity of training programmes through the age groups.

  • Undertake enhancement of specific personal Qualifications and all CPD provided by the Club and regulatory bodies.

  • Complete part time staff appraisals twice yearly, highlighting areas of strength and future development.


Qualifications current and potential

  • UEFA A Coaching Licence

  • FA Advanced Youth Award

  • Coach Education Qualification (potential)

  • Safeguarding and Protecting Children

  • Basic First Aid for Sport (BFAS)

  • Level 3 Diploma in Leadership and Management (potential)

  • Level 3 P.T.L.L.S (potential)


Range of Experiences Experience of working in at least 3 of the following roles:

  • A vast range of coaching experience at all levels

  • A mentoring/coaching role in the Y.D.P


Knowledge and/or experience of at least 3 of the following:

  • The process of learning in coaches (andragogy)

  • The process of learning in young people (pedagogy)

  • Running and designing development programmes

  • Football (coached or played at a high level)

  • Leading a team

  • Managing people

  • Sport Psychology


Have ICT experience of PMA, Excel, Word and any other software as required in order to carry out the duties required for the job.
