Founded in 1882, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is an English Premier League Club, based in North London, with a global following of millions.

JOB PURPOSE

The club are seeing a Medical Lead for the Women’s First Team who will lead the development & delivery of all aspects of physiotherapy services to the squad including accurate assessment & diagnosis of acute injuries alongside planning & implementation of rehabilitation and injury prevention strategies while providing elite care for players. Utilising evidence-based medical provision, the Medical Lead will drive the Medical & Sports Science Department’s vision of optimizing player availability & performance

The Club operates out of multiple sites, including a world class Training Centre in Enfield where all the Women’s First Team training and coaching activities occur, and where the Medical department is based.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Women’s 1st team Medical team utilising a collaborative approach to optimise team performance in accordance with the Clubs vision and protocols

  • Leading the medical team to: Deliver appropriate physical training throughout rehabilitation in preparation for return to team training. Implement individualised injury risk reduction training for all professional players. Assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of all injuries and illnesses utilising the highest level of current evidence-based practice. Effectively communicate & collaborate with specialist consultants where appropriate

  • Undertake regular maintenance of non-injured players in the build-up to training and matches each day.

  • Safe management, Emergency and pitch-side assessment and treatment of players during training and matches.

  • Communicating injury status, rehabilitation strategies and return to training projections to the technical and physical performance coaches on a daily basis.

  • Plan and lead the assessment of all new player signings and loans for the club, liaising with the club doctor, and drawing up timely medical reports to submit to the board

  • Create and implement systems and methodologies to evaluate the success of the department.

  • Create a challenging team environment that encourages creative solutions and provides ongoing opportunities for team members to develop.

  • Encourage an interdisciplinary approach inclusive of the wider club, whilst leading the communications with the MDT to ensure effective collaboration and treatment. This will include Medical, Physical Performance, Nutrition & Coaching staff, in particular Head Coach.

  • The role will involve travel away from home including to international tours and tournaments, including weekends, bank holidays, and evening work


Governance & Audit

  • Ensure the medical department meets Women’s Super League regulatory requirements

  • Uphold Club, Medical Department, health & safety, ethics and safeguarding protocols, acting as a role model to players and staff alike and reflecting the Club’s commitment to safeguarding

  • Management of the medical budget

  • Ensure contemporaneous, comprehensive and confidential medical record keeping for all professional players utilizing the clubs record system in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and Professional Body Requirements

  • Ensuring the Club and players are compliant with all medical and anti-doping rules and governing body regulations.

  • Record and produce quarterly reports of player availability and injury audit, including comparison of estimated and actual time loss, to enable formal continuous reflective practice-based quality improvement.

  • Maintain all personal legal and professional qualifications and the equivalent standards for all practitioners in the department and CPD requirements


CPD & Research

  • Proactively educate players on health and lifestyle factors that serve to protect their health and maximise performance.

  • Participate in appropriate research projects that the club has a track record in participating in.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • A BSc/ MSc degree level qualification or equivalent in Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy or Sports Rehabilitation

  • Registered to the relevant Professional Body (CSP, HCPC, SST or BASRaT)

  • Minimum five years post-graduate experience.

  • Minimum three years' experience in elite/ professional sport, preferably football, with experience of working with elite athletes.

  • Experience in development and delivery of research-based injury prevention and treatment strategies.

  • Experience in planning and delivery of rehabilitation programmes to elite athletes.

  • Experience of working full time as a lead in a high-performance team environment

  • Be a good role model for staff and players in the elite sport environment in terms of knowledge, behaviour and development

  • Excellent communication, leadership, team-working and organisation skills


Preferred:

  • Valid FA ATMMiF qualification or equivalent

  • Track record of producing injury audits and injury prevention strategies at a squad and individual level.

  • A Post graduate qualification in a relevant field

  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Experience of working with Young Adults.

  • Current valid enhanced CRB check.
