JOB TITLE: Women’s First Team Assistant Coach

REPORTING LINE: Women’s Managing Director

THE ROLE

The primary purpose of the Women's First Team Assistant Coach at Rangers is to support the Head Coach in the leadership, development, and management of the women's football team to achieve competitive excellence, with a particular focus on winning the Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL) and other major competitions.

The Assistant Coach will contribute to the design and implementation and execution of advanced training programs tailored to the exceptionally high demands and standards set at the football club. They will deliver as directed by the Head Coach, and support the creation of winning strategies, and holistic player development plans. This role requires a commitment to promoting the values of sporting success, positive culture, and discipline within a diverse and dynamic environment.

In addition to on-field coaching, the Women's First Team Assistant Coach is responsible for the creation of agenda's, meetings and progress reports from the multi-disciplinary team of staff across the areas of performance (medical, analysis, sport science) in preparation for the Head Coaches leadership and strategic direction. They are a voice in the strategic approach to recruitment, identifying the needs of the team, and working with the analysis department to provide data led insights into this area. Additionally, they are responsible for the management of the clubs 'Loan Players'. This includes the gathering of performance data and reports from loan clubs with a view to understanding the potential integration of these players int eh 1st team environment as and when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborative Staff Member: Support the Head Coach as a collaborative staff member in the strategic development of the team. Be a voice of support, challenge, innovation, and unity in the key components of managing the team such as planning content, delivering sessions, reviewing progress, and 're-planning' for the future.

  2. Be a positive force for other staff members and players and inspire the women's team to achieve competitive success in the Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL) and other major competitions. Live out a set of standards, behaviours, and processes that hold themselves, colleagues, and players accountable and promote a positive, and driven place of work.

  3. Training Program Development: Design and implement comprehensive training programs in line with the Head Coaches vision that improve individual and team performance, tailored to the specific demands of Scottish football.

  4. Game Model: In line with the Head Coaches vision, develop and execute a detailed, effective, and attractive game model and style of play that represents Rangers values and commitment to how we believe the game should be played.

  5. Player Development: Be a balanced voice on and off the pitch in the fostering of the athletic, technical, and personal growth of each player.

  6. Recruitment: Work collectively with club staff in the scouting, evaluation, and recruitment of top-tier talent from Scotland and beyond to build a competitive and cohesive team that aligns with the club's vision.

  7. Performance Analysis: Provide the feedback required to he MDT within the parameters of the analysis department and the needs as directed by the Head Coach. Be innovative in the outlook of the game, and how data and video can provide insight into the positive improvement of the team.

  8. Compliance: Work with women's department administrators to ensure the team adheres to all Scottish Football Association (SFA) and league regulations, including player eligibility, conduct, and matchday procedures.

  9. Injury Prevention and Management: Work closely with medical staff and the Head Coach to implement injury prevention strategies and manage player rehabilitation effectively.

  10. Community Engagement: Represent the team and club in public appearances, build relationships with local communities, and promote the growth of women's football in Scotland.

  11. Team Culture: Foster a positive, inclusive, and highly competitive team culture that promotes the Rangers values system.

  12. Goal Setting: Provide authentic and objective feedback on goals set by the Head Coach, and on occasion provide the data required to measure progress for the team and individual players.

  13. Match Day: Deliver, as directed by the Head Coach, the aspects of match preparation, including on-pitch activity such as warm-up, set-pieces, opposition analysis, and be a collaborative voice in real-time decision making required for success.

  14. Continuous Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest coaching methods, trends in women’s football, and developments in the SWPL and broader football community.

  15. Represent the club in the media communications and commercial partnerships as and when required to promote our values to the world.

  16. Connect the women's 1st team with the Girls Academy in being present on occasions required (Cup Finals, games - where possible) and interacting with the staff to bring streamlined approaches to curriculum, player ID, and pathways towards the first team (e.g. u20s).


THE CANDIDATE

The candidate attributes include:

Qualifications:

- UEFA A License or equivalent coaching qualification, with a strong understanding of the game at the professional level.

- Relevant degree or equivalent experience in sports coaching, physical education, or sports science preferred.

Experience:

- Experience of coaching at a high level of women's professional football either within club or international environment.

- Demonstrated success in an Assistant Coach capacity, with a history of achieving positive results in league competitions and tournaments.

- Experience in talent identification, recruitment, and player development

- Strong background in creating and implementing training programs that address both individual and team needs.

Skills and Abilities:

- Excellent leadership and motivational skills, with the ability to inspire and guide players to reach their full potential.

- High emotional intelligence with a strong ability to manage communication both upwards (into Head Coach) and sideways (into colleagues).

- Strong tactical and strategic thinking, with the ability to adapt game plans and training methods to meet the demands of the competition.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with players, staff, and stakeholders.

- High level of organisation and time management, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines efficiently.

- Proficiency in performance analysis tools and technology, with the ability to use data to inform coaching decisions.
