Job PurposeThis is a key role within our evolving Physical Performance department. The successful candidate will:
- Work collaboratively across football insights, performance, and medical teams.
- Apply cutting-edge sport science techniques.
- Provide key insights to support evidence-based interventions.
- Combine sport science delivery with advanced programming, data analysis, and visualisation skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the collection and presentation of wellbeing and readiness testing for the Men’s First Team.
- Lead physical performance testing and stay informed on the latest advancements in testing technology.
- Develop a project request system to manage ‘special projects’ with clear timelines and priorities.
- Optimise data workflows to improve efficiency (e.g., API integration).
- Support physical performance and recovery sessions as required.
- Align processes and systems across the Academy and Loans departments.
- Extract, transform, and merge data from multiple sources efficiently.
- Develop and deploy data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Set up and maintain front-end data processes and visualisations.
- Lead short and long-term data-driven projects identifying elite football trends.
- Drive innovation and research across the department (AI, machine learning, new tech, etc.).
- Support the delivery of internal CPD sessions.
- Lead integration and use of Kitman Labs software within the department.

Scope of the RoleThe Sport Scientist – Data will:
- Develop and administer readiness monitoring and physical testing processes.
- Implement and manage tracking systems for training and match play.
- Analyse complex datasets to provide impactful insights.
- Support data ingestion and processing to inform decision-making.
Person SpecificationKnowledgeEssential:
- Experience with testing, monitoring, and sport science in elite environments.
- Experience managing large sport-specific datasets.
Desirable:
- Research experience using event/tracking data (e.g., Statsbomb, Opta, Second Spectrum, PFF, Skillcorner).
Technical / Work-Based SkillsEssential:
- Advanced Power BI proficiency
- Advanced Tableau proficiency
- Advanced use of Vald systems
- API experience with JSON, XML, CSV data

- MSc in Sport and Exercise Science (or related field)

- BASES Supervised Experience or Accreditation
- UKSCA, NSCA, or ASCA Accreditation
