Location: St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week (including course attendance)

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract Apprenticeship – 18 months

Criminal Record Check: DBS Enhanced with Child’s List

What is the role?

We have an exciting opportunity to work with Saints Foundation as an apprentice.  This will allow you to get practical paid experience in a working environment, whilst also studying towards a Youth Support Worker qualification.

You will be carrying out administrative duties for the Kicks Programme area of Saints Foundation. Kicks is a youth engagement programme aimed at 8 to 18 year olds who are at risk of anti-social behaviour, youth violence and/or from areas of need within the city, and the programme aims to bring young people together to play sport whilst socialising with friends.

What will you be doing?

The Youth Work Apprentice will work closely with the Youth Work Coordinator and Kicks Project Officer to develop and deliver programmes that are carried out on weekday evenings at community and school-based Kicks sites across Southampton.

You will work closely with the Youth Engagement Coordinator to plan and deliver engaging and inspirational pitch side workshops, tournaments and social action projects. This role will also include getting involved in our Disability projects, delivering community provision for disabled people and also getting involved in our Gender Equality work, supporting women and girls to be safe, developing their skills to thrive and participate in sport equally.

The Apprenticeship

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will gain a Youth Support Worker qualification. This apprenticeship will last for 18 months.

The apprenticeship will cover:

  • Engaging and Communicating with Young People.

  • Safeguarding in a Youth Work setting.

  • Theory of Youth Work.

  • Young People’s Development.

  • Reflective Practice in a Youth Work setting.

  • Work-Based Practice in a Youth Work setting.

  • Working with Behavior that Challenges in a Youth Work setting.

  • Group Work within a Youth Work setting.

If you are a people person who enjoys building relationships and being a positive influence on the younger generation, this role could be perfect for you. You should have a genuine interest in youth work and developing and learning in this sector. Other desirable attributes include:

  • Experience of delivering or providing targeted interventions to young people in community settings.

  • Experience of successfully delivering community-based sessions.

  • Have excellent communication and organisation skills.

  • Have a flexible approach to work and be able to work unsociable hours (including evenings and weekends) and have access to own vehicle.
