Purpose of Role This is a critical role within the FAW Safeguarding Team for which the purpose is to oversee and manage all safeguarding cases for the FAW.
Key Areas of Accountability/Responsibility
- Work with the Safeguarding team to ensure safeguarding and child welfare are the paramount consideration within the Football Association of Wales.
- Manage statutory cases referred to the FAW Safeguarding Team, ensuring effective communication with all parties
- Oversee DBS investigations and risk assessments.
- Prepare for and effectively present safeguarding cases to relevant Panels.
- Educate and support clubs, leagues and area associations on their case management processes and upskill where necessary.
- Consult with internal and external stakeholders on safeguarding matters and initiatives.
- Monitor any patterns in case to inform areas of training that may be required and then work with collgeaus to develop specific safeguarding training for the football family as needed.
- Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on safeguarding concerns and cases.
- Ensure poor practice is being effectively managed at the appropriate level of the Safeguarding Structure in Wales.
- Work closely with the Child Protection in Sport Unit and the Ann Craft Trust, ensuring trends and updates to best practice are regularly reviewed.
- Represent the FAW at Safeguarding meetings, sharing information where appropriate.
- Ensure safeguarding policies, practices, and procedures are adhered to at all times.
- Complete actions required by the FAW to comply with statutory recommendations.
- Provide case updates and support to relevant parties whilst cases are ongoing.
- Effecive management of confidential and often highly sensitive information.
- Line management of Grassroots Safeguarding Executives.

- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- Experience of working on safeguarding related cases and concerns.
- Experience using a case management system.
- Experience of communicating with children and young people.
- Experience of working with statutory agencies.
- Mental Health First Aid qualification (advantageous)
Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies, practices and procedures and legislation.
- Knowledge and understanding of DBS processes and legislation.
- Experience of Microsoft applications, for example Word, Excel and Outlook are essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to show empathy.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.
- An understanding of the needs of volunteers.
- The ability to support and challenge at all levels.
- Demonstrate attention to detail.
- The ability to deal with difficult matters professionally and in confidence.
- The ability to work as part of a team but also without supervision.
- An understanding of Welsh grassroots football. (Advantageous)
Role Specific Requirements
- The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and two professional / personal references, to the satisfaction of the FAW. In addition, the FAW wil ask to see evidence of right to work in the UK.
- Due to the nature of the role there may be a requirement to work outside of standard working hours.
- The ability to speak Welsh would be advantageous.
