Barnsley Football Club encourages equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and are looking to employ a number Part-Time Academy Physiotherapists or Sports Therapists to join our medical department.

The successful candidate will provide medical provision for the U9-U16 Academy players, including clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured players during evening clinics, training and match days.

This role requires a passion for working in sport, flexibility, and willingness to work evenings and weekends in accordance with the needs of the Club. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to build professional relationships.

Essential Criteria:

  • BSc/ MSc degree in Physiotherapy or Sports Therapy

  • Must have a full and in-date membership/ registration with:

  • Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)

  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

  • Sports Therapy Association (STA)

  • The FA - Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMIF) Qualification

  • A clear enhanced DBS check

  • Full valid driver’s license

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends – including bank holidays/ school holidays

  • Must be eligible to live and work in the UK


Desirable Criteria:

  • Competent in the use of IT software such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience of working with athletes or paediatrics

  • Knowledge of EPPP

  • Experience in the use of PMA

  • Lives close to the Barnsley area

  • FA Safeguarding Course


Key Responsibilities:

  • The assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of the U9-16 Academy players under the guidance of the current U9-16 Full-Time Academy Sports Therapist.

  • Provide medical cover for injury clinics, training sessions and match-days for the U9-16s.

  • Communicate effectively to the player, Academy Sports Therapists/ Physiotherapists, coaches, parents, and schools regarding updates on player’s injuries and return to play dates.

  • To liaise with the Full- Time Academy Sports Therapist/ Physiotherapists/ Club Doctor regarding referrals to GP’s, consultants, A&E where applicable.

  • Maintain up to date notes about player’s injuries on the clubs PMA database in line with professional governing body.

  • Follow the club’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for training and games.

  • Work effectively as a team with other part time staff such as sports science to ensure a multidisciplinary approach has been utilised for all players.

  • Ensure you are flexible to work at least one evening clinic per week and two weekend matches per month.

  • To engage in the club’s staff appraisal process to ensure high standards are being continuously met.

  • To be aware of the club’s safeguarding policies and the club safeguarding officer to report any issues.

  • Be committed to regularly undertake CPD and attend any events at the club to aid development.

  • To comply with the club’s policies and procedures in the Staff Handbook.
