Description

Ipswich Town Football Club is offering a physical performance internship opportunity for the 2024-25 season within the First Team Performance Department. Successful applicants will support the Performance Department under the supervision of the Head of Athletic Performance and Head of Strength and Conditioning, working alongside the First Team Fitness Coach and Sport Scientist.

This paid internship will see the individual gain valuable experience within First Team professional football. The opportunity to work across multiple disciplines supporting player performance provides a more holistic learning experience when assisting in planning and delivering in a high-quality athletic development environment.

Roles & Responsibilities
The internship will include, but is not limited to, the following:
• To assist with all Sport Science and Strength and Conditioning (S&C):
- Testing, data collection and analysis.
- Planning and delivery of activation/injury prevention, recovery and conditioning sessions.
- Maintenance of equipment and consumables.
- Maintenance of best practice standards.
• Be involved with internal and external CPD practices.
• Support the club in undertaking in-house research and development.
• Support as required at training and on matchdays.
• Will involve weekend and unsociable hours.

Who are you?
• Graduated or currently completing their last year of an Undergraduate or Master’s degree in a Sport Science or related degree. Previous experience of working in a professional football environment is highly desirable whether through a ‘sandwich placement year’ or by other means.
• Achieved or predicted a First Class or Upper Second Class degree classification.
• Demonstrate an interest in sport science and/or S&C, and a good understanding of how sport science/S&C can be used to enhance performance.
• High level of written and IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Excel and/or relevant data analysis software. (Competency with statistical/analytical/visualisation programmes is an advantage)
• An understanding of how to use relevant software and equipment (e.g. GPS systems, Nordbord, ForceDecks) is desirable.
• Ability to work effectively independently, as well as part of a team.
• A flexible, enthusiastic individual, proactive in their own development.
• Strong communication skills.
• Adopts a growth and learning mindset.
• Ability to work in a pressurised environment and to deadlines.
• Takes pride in producing high-quality work.
• Ability to travel independently.
