Sheffield United Community Foundation, in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, are offering post-graduate students the chance to qualify as a Post-16 and Further Education teacher, while undertaking a year-long placement within our Community College provision. Whether you aspire to teach within the subjects of Sport or Esports, our comprehensive teacher training programme provides the perfect platform to turn your passion into a profession.
Students will study on a blended learning degree, combining four days of placement at Sheffield United Community College each week, alongside one day of studying at Sheffield Hallam. As part of the course at Sheffield Hallam you will learn about; planning and preparing to teach, assessment for learning, teaching strategies and approaches, behaviour for learning, using technology to enhance learning and progression against the Professional Standards. Whereas, on placement you will be given opportunities to develop and refine your teaching practice through working directly with classes of learners within a post-16 setting. All training teachers will be paired with a paired with a dedicated mentor, tasked with providing guidance, support, and constructive feedback throughout their training journey.
Currently, 75% of qualified tutors working at Sheffield United Community Foundation have successfully completed their PGCE training programme at Sheffield Hallam University (6 out of 8).
Entry Requirements:
- Undergraduate Degree (minimum classification 2:2)
- GCSE English and Maths (grade 4 or above)
- Passion for teaching within Sport, Fitness, Esports or digital media
