Job Title: Medical Lead Academy
Department: Medical Unit - Academy
Reports to: Head of Performance

Objective

  • Lead & direct the medical care in, injury management and rehabilitation processes & outcomes for AJC Academy players.

  • Establish medical care pathways for players throughout the player development pathway (academy – Academy) and oversee the delivery of all medical services


Responsibilities

  • Provide acute medical care for all Al Jazira Academy players.

  • Set up relevant care pathways when appropriate for all Al Jazira players throughout the pathway to ensure the highest possible levels of care.

  • Set up pre-health screening for Academy players as required e.g. cardiac, concussion, MSK, general medical.

  • Lead the physiotherapy team in assessing, diagnosing & treating football related injuries.

  • Provide pitch-side medical care for the Academy players during training and matches

  • Set up & lead SOP at all home venues/travelling/training grounds as appropriate

  • Define and communicate the drug/medication policy for all players and ensure compliance with relevant anti-doping agency policies

  • Attend specialist appointments as required with all players on medical care pathway plans

  • Ensure all medical notes and plans are recorded & managed in a secure manner to ensure privacy

  • Ensure that relevant data is collected and maintained for the purposes of retrospective insights

  • Lead the audit of injuries for all Al Jazira players, ensuring this can be shared with key stakeholders

  • Lead the process of ‘Critical Reviews/Significant Event Analysis’ around injuries (as required)

  • Maintain all legal and professional qualifications in relation to your own profession and professional development and those of staff within the medical team.

  • Seek the support and advice of external mentors as appointed by the board

  • Responsibility for overseeing medical budget & medical expenditur

  • Present to the board annually Needs Analysis of future spend & justification

Knowledge

  • An extensive knowledge of injury management pathways in elite Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM).

  • An extensive knowledge of SEM/injury profiling in the elite sporting population.

  • An extensive knowledge of relevant medical care pathways in the field of SEM

  • Working at an elite level of sport for minimum 5-year period.

  • To have managed a sports medicine department previously


Experience

  • Experience working in a global professional football club or other elite sporting environment.

  • Significant experience in the provision of SEM within high performance sport.

  • Experience in working as part of an MDT (coach and other practitioners working together)

  • Experience of using data management systems to ensure the secure and efficient storage of monitoring and evaluation data.

  • Experience of leading a medical team in professional football or other elite sporting environment


Qualifications

  • Qualification as a Medical Doctor with specialty in Sport Sciences
