What will you be doing?
You will be responsible for delivering insights and evidence-based solutions to support or challenge decisions with statistical data to enhance individual player development programmes and performance. You will also be required to process and manage technical, tactical, physical and psychological data of players from use of technology and GPS.
You will analyse player tracking, player event and player physical data in relation to individual progress and historical, and modelling data, along with creating predictive models to forecast outcomes and devise individual player development strategies.
You will need to work closely with stakeholders to identify data needs and collaborate with them to ensure data accuracy, whilst also working closely with management of the PMA system and Hudl, ensuring all relevant information, video and data is uploaded in a timely and professional manner.
Other tasks include:
- Designing and supporting the development of data pipelines and bespoke solutions to create efficiencies in the individual player development process.
- Developing interactive visualisations to present data in a relevant and meaningful way for players, staff and other key stakeholders in the development process.
- Building position specific data models to enhance recruitment and development processes.
- Monitoring data quality and maintain data integrity.
- Leading the design and management of an individual tracking system to monitor the relevance and variety of training and games programmes for Under 14-21 players.
- Preparing progress individual data reports and reviews for identified Under 14-21s players for player pathway meetings, audit process and to track progress in relation to Individual Development Plans.
- Supporting the collation of information to support internal and external audit processes.
- Providing additional support to the Player Pathway Analyst, Academy Recruitment Analyst and Head of Academy Analysis, where required.
- Supporting the development of the software and technology plan for the Player Pathways Department.
- Carrying out any other reasonable management requests, including moving age groups within the same phase or wider Academy.
Person Specification
- Undergraduate degree in data analytics, computer science, mathematics, engineering, economics, statistics or relevant field.
- Minimum three years’ experience working as a Data Scientist or equivalent in Academy or International Youth football.
- High levels of competency in the use of statistical programming software such as Python, Oracle, SQL and equivalent.
- Experience in using data analysis tools such as Tableau.
- Understanding of algorithms and statistics and possess the ability to translate these into coaching language for players and staff.
- Data engineering experience.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Postgraduate degree in Data Science (desirable).
- Sports Science or coaching qualifications (desirable).
