What is the role?

We are currently looking for 1 master’s work placement student to join our Performance Analysis department at Southampton Football Club for the 2023/24 season. The successful applicants will be responsible for the analysis provision in the RTC academy as well as assist permanent members.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates who can be part of a multi-disciplinary team of people, be proactive and innovative in their approach and communicate effectively at all levels.

This placement MUST form part of the overall degree programme in order for you to be considered.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To work within the analysis team on a day-to-day basis ensuring all video and analysis requirements are met.

  • Filming and coding matches of the RTC academy teams, both home and away.

  • Producing post-match video for coaches and players, regarding both team and individual performances.

  • Assist the full-time performance analyst with day-to-day tasks (e.g., film training, opposition dossier, produce individual clips).

  • Maintenance of the player database storing all player related performance data and team analysis whether it be video, statistics or text.

  • Support multi-disciplinary team with any required video content.

  • Ensure the relationship with children and vulnerable adults is appropriate and language behaviour and demeanour is suitable. The company will expect you to undertake training to ensure an understanding of best practice in relation to Children and/or vulnerable adults.

  • Any other duties as defined by the analysis team.


Person Specification:

  • Undertaking a Master’s level degree in a performance analysis degree that requires a placement year

  • A high level of game intelligence and tactical awareness

  • A good understanding of the elite sporting environment

  • Experience of analysis within a sports club

  • Proficient using Keynote, PowerPoint & analysis software

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Good team player – desire to develop others within your team

  • Strong work ethic and proactive attitude

  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks

  • Quality focus & accountability – takes responsibility for ensuring a high quality of work

  • Drive and energy – demonstrate enthusiasm and is personally committed to achieving objectives set

  • Self-motivated - Driven and able to work off own initiative as well as follow guidance and instruction

  • Self development – is receptive to feedback about own behaviour, strengths and areas for improvement
