Wigan Athletic Community Trust is recruiting for a Football and Education Tutor to join its expanding Training and Skills team and help deliver its BTEC provision.
Salary: £24,000 - £26,000 per annum
PermanentYou will:
- Ensure all lessons, including the planning, preparation, and assessment of, are delivered to the standard required by funding partners and external verifiers.
- To be responsible for courses/ classes of study and be the key contact for identified learners.
- To embed Maths and English across the delivery of all classroom lessons and activities and be responsible for a cohort of learners, monitoring attendance to increase achievement in these subjects.
- Maintain a positive and professional learning environment and follow the behaviour management procedures as appropriate.
- Ensure all relevant funding paperwork is completed timely and accurately including registers, target grades and destinations.
- Contribute to learner progress reviews as and when requested by Football and Education Manager or the funder.
- Identify underachieving students and ensure appropriate intervention, communicating plan with manager and the funder.
- Support learners with progression routes and develop employability skills, linking in with the expectations of the funder.
- To supervise students visits and work placement programmes where appropriate.
- Work with Football and Education Manager and Operations Manager to set up suitable work placement for identified students.
- Manage the learner’s involvement in the EFL Community and Education Alliance League, organising fixtures and friendlies, including transport and kit.
- Organise and deliver a football coaching programme to support the learner’s involvement in the EFL Community and Education Football Alliance.
- Provide teaching cover in case of holidays and sickness for other training and skills programmes delivered by the Community Trust.
- Support organised Community Trust post 16 recruitment events, to promote the Training and Skills offer.
- Represent Wigan Athletic Community Trust at stakeholder and community meetings across Wigan and on occasion at regional and national level.
- Be a flexible member of the Wigan Athletic Community Trust team and when requested assist in the delivery of other projects and activities including evenings and weekends.
The successful candidate will:
- PGCE in Further Education or equivalent
- Educated to degree standard or equivalent in sport or community development related subject.
- Experience of teaching within further education (can be gained through PGCE)
- The ability to inspire and motivate students from a range of diverse and sometimes challenging backgrounds.
- Relevant and current subject knowledge of sports coaching
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- The ability to plan and organise own workload effectively.
- Understanding of safeguarding in education and its implication for the delivery of the programme
- Sound understanding of equality and diversity and its application in the teaching and learning environment.
- Ability to empathise with young people and also challenge negative behaviours.
- Be able to travel independently between different venues and locations.
