About The RoleAn exciting opportunity for a sandwich year university student has arisen at Exeter City Football Club, who require a full-time (40 hours per week) Sport Scientist/Strength & Conditioning Coach. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be an integral part of a performance team at a professional football club, and gain experience in the practical application of theoretical knowledge with elite football players. An effective sport science programme has been developed and the successful applicant will obtain extensive experience of its planning and delivery under the supervision of the Lead Sport Scientist and the Head of Medical.
The successful applicant will form part of a multi-disciplinary team with the existing first team sport science, medical and coaching staff to optimise physical performance and minimise the risk of injury to all first team players. They may also have an opportunity to assist in the delivery of sport science/S&C practices to the academy sides.
Work will take place at the Cliff Hill Training Ground (Sidmouth Road, Clyst St. Mary, Exeter, EX5 1DP) for all training days. Work will also take place at St James Park, Stadium Way, Exeter, EX4 6PX) for home games, and may also include travel to away games at various locations.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist with player load monitoring, planning and management
- Assist with the delivery of gym-based prehab and S&C sessions
- Assist with the delivery of pitch-based warm ups and S&C sessions
- Assist with the design of individualised S&C programmes
- Assist with the delivery of late-stage rehabilitation sessions for injured players
- Assist with data collection, analysis and reporting
- Assist with various performance, screening and anthropometric testing procedures
- Delivery of nutritional and hydration strategies
- Training and match day support
- Fulfil any other relevant duties as directed by the sport science, medical and coaching staff
About The Candidate(E) = Essential or (D) = Desirable
- Enhanced FA CRB/DBS check (E) – can be applied for through ECFC if you don’t have one already.
- Enrolled on a sports science/strength & conditioning based degree/module at the University that includes an integrated placement (E).
- An interest in working with and developing athletes (E).
- An interest in football (D).
- Experience in providing sports science or S&C support to athletes (D).
- Experience in coaching (D).
- A desire to work as a Sport Scientist/Strength & Conditioning Coach after graduating (D).
