JOB TITLE: First Team Reconditioning Coach
REPORTING LINE: Head of Performance

THE ROLE
Working within the wider Performance & Medical department, the First Team Reconditioning Coach will be responsible for overseeing the mid-to-end stage conditioning and transition of injured players back into full training. This role will require a close working relationship with all staff across the performance and medical department, working closely with rehabilitation physiotherapists, and the head of performance to effectively manage the return and reintegration of 1st team players into full training.
In addition to their reconditioning responsibilities, the successful applicant will be expected to hold further responsibilities in line with the requirements of the Performance department. This includes assisting with on-pitch delivery of warmups and the delivery of the strength & conditioning programme, and matchday warmups as requested.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reconditioning Leadership
Lead the reconditioning phase of the return-to-play process in collaboration with rehabilitation physiotherapists and the Head of Performance.
Manage both gym-based and pitch-based rehabilitation to ensure a seamless transition back to full training and match play.
Oversee the transitional phase of players re-integrating into training, managing individualised programmes and monitoring physical load in partnership with the Head of Performance.
Planning & Reporting
Provide daily and weekly updates on the status of reconditioning players, including anticipated return-to-train dates.
Plan and manage weekly and monthly reconditioning schedules, ensuring consistent updates are communicated across the performance and medical departments.
Strength & Conditioning Support
Support the design and delivery of the first-team strength and conditioning programme under the direction of the 1st Team Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Contribute to on-pitch warm-ups and physical conditioning sessions alongside the Head of Performance and Physical Performance Coach.
Player Monitoring & Assessment
Assist in the screening and monitoring of players on a daily and weekly basis, providing detailed reports and performance analysis where required.
Support the Strength & Conditioning Coach in physical profiling and performance testing, and share full analyses and action points with relevant staff.
Performance & Recovery Support
Assist in the development and implementation of recovery, regeneration, and nutrition strategies as needed.
Contribute to the effective management and upkeep of performance-related facilities and equipment.
Professional Development & Research
Maintain all required legal and professional qualifications.
Engage in ongoing personal CPD to meet the evolving demands of the role and industry standards.
Organise and participate in regular CPD activities within the performance department.
Lead and contribute to research projects aimed at publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, supporting the department's research and development objectives.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Attend daily performance and medical team meetings to align on strategies for player readiness and rehabilitation.
Foster strong, collaborative relationships with coaching staff, players, and wider club personnel to support effective interdisciplinary delivery.
Promote a high-performance culture through consistent standards and positive behaviours.
Confidentiality & Compliance
Adhere to a strict code of confidentiality concerning all club-related information.
Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the line manager or Head of Department within the scope of the role.
THE CANDIDATE
The candidate attributes include:
Job Knowledge:
• Experience delivering pitch and gym-based conditioning and rehabilitation sessions to elite
athletes.
• Excellent understanding of the physical and physiological demands of football.
• Excellent knowledge of athletic development and proven ability to implement this across the
training week.
• Experience analysing the demands of football utilising various technologies.
• Computer literate and able to produce insightful reports to various stakeholders that inform
decision making.
• Ability to identify strategic areas of focus, pertaining to Sport Science/ Strength and
Conditioning, for sports performance and translate into effective operational delivery in terms
of planning, programming and coaching.
Education and Qualifications:
• BSc in Sports Science or related field (essential).
• MSc in Sports Science/Strength & Conditioning/Rehabilitation (essential).
• Hold a recognised Strength & Conditioning certificate with evidence of continuing professional education and development in this discipline. UKSCA accreditation is desirable.
• UEFA B Licence (essential)
