What is the role?

We have an exciting new opportunity for a master’s student to join our Performance Analysis department at Southampton Football Club for the 2023/24 season. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the analysis provision of the First Team Analysts.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates who can be part of a multi-disciplinary team of people, be proactive and innovative in their approach and communicate effectively at all levels.

This placement MUST form part of the overall degree programme in order for you to be considered.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To work within the analysis team on a day-to-day basis ensuring all video and analysis requirements are met.

  • Filming, coding and databasing multi angle First Team training sessions based on the club’s playing principles.

  • Responsible for club specific coding of matches from each PL game week.

  • Contribute to the maintenance of season specific databases (team, individual and opposition).

  • Live filming fixtures if required.

  • Support multi-disciplinary team with any required video content.

  • Assist First Team performance analysts with day-to-day ad-hoc tasks (e.g., fulfilling coach requests, supporting the Set Piece Coach with video analysis, compiling opposition dossiers).

  • Any other duties as defined by the analysis team.


The competencies which are required include:

Essential Experience:

  • A high level of football knowledge

  • A good understanding of the elite sporting environment

  • Proficient using Keynote, Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills


Essential Qualifications (including certifications):

  • Undertaking a master’s level degree in a sports science related degree that permits a placement year

  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks
