Are you passionate about data and winning England teams?

Come and play a key role in the Insights department, driving evidenced based insight across multiple performance functions at the FA.

Transform data and expertise into actionable insight. Work collaboratively and build strong working relationships with domain experts (including but not limited to: Coaching, Recruitment, Analysis, Physical Performance, Medicine, Nutrition, Psychology), helping drive evidenced based processes and decisions around player selection, development and performance.

What You'll Do?

The role of the Data Analyst will emphasize the critical aspects of data analysis, visualization, and communication, driving evidence-based insights and empowering informed decision-making.

Analytical Skillset

  • Play a leading role in the application of statistical techniques to generate meaningful insights and metrics.

  • Generate, undertake and support research projects that address critical football questions, delivering novel insights that shape England Teams' strategies.

  • Provide a high degree of support and education to key stakeholders and non-technical staff to enhance their understanding and effective utilization of data and insight tools.

  • Work closely with the Senior Data Architect and Development Team to ensure seamless integration of analytics reporting and models.


Data Wrangling & Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)

  • Clean, process, and transform raw, unstructured football data into usable formats for analysis.

  • Ensure the quality of data utilised, which will drive insights and subsequently decisions, through diligent data checking and cleaning.

  • Conduct thorough data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and key insights in a variety of football data sets.


Data Visualisation

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to translate complex data into actionable insights through impactful data visualisation.

  • Communicate data insights effectively utilising interactive tools/dashboards, reports and research projects.


Football Domain Knowledge

  • Utilize a high level of football-specific domain knowledge in areas such as team performance, player development, player scouting, and physical performance.

  • Understand how data can be effectively used to impact decisions in these areas and work with stakeholders to apply insights.

  • Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.

  • As part of The FA's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone in football, every employee will be required to complete a DBS check. The level of the check required will be based on the activity of the specific job role and in line with legislation and government guidance.


What You'll Need?

Essential for the role:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a quantitative field (mathematics, statistics, computer/data science etc.) or in sports science, sport management or related field with demonstrable analytics experience.

  • Experience in the fundamentals of data analysis, including but not limited to:

    • Data visualisation

    • Exploratory Data Analysis

    • Data Wrangling



  • Experience in utilising data to drive insights related to football specific questions

  • Experience with football specific datasets, including but not limited to event data, optical tracking data, broadcast tracking data, GPS data.

  • Experience using data visualisation tools such as Tableau and Power BI.

  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages, especially Python and/or R, for data analysis.

  • Demonstrable experience collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders on analytics projects.

  • Ability to be physically present at St. George's Park

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Beneficial to have:

  • Experience in a similar role in a professional football environment

  • Competency in fundamentals of data science, including the data analysis essentials and; featuring engineering, model selection, training and tuning
