Job Description

About The Role

17.5 hours per week

Safeguarding is a critical function across all departments of Forest Green Rovers (FGR). Whilst safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) is responsible for ensuring all documentation, training and delivery is the best it can be as well as driving continuous improvement throughout the entire organisation.

Duties will include:

  • Ensure that all documentation, policies and procedures for the safeguarding of children and adults at risk are up to date

  • Provide reports to the Board, CEO, Senior Safeguarding Manager and Head of Academy on the effectiveness of and compliance with policies and procedures, as and when required

  • Manage the central register in a format approved by the League

  • Promote awareness within FGR of safeguarding of children and adults at risk, and encourage and monitor the adoption of best practice procedures in that regard

  • Proactively monitor safeguarding training across FGR to ensure that all staff, contractors and Directors have completed the necessary courses in a timely manner

  • Ensure that the academy players’ accommodation is suitably staffed

  • Review and approve the safeguarding provision for all activities

  • Provide guidance and support to any member of staff engaged in any activity who reports suspected abuse of a child or adult at risk or concerns for their welfare.

  • Be FGR’s recognised go-to person for enquiries relating to safeguarding

  • Attend all home match days

  • Other duties and tasks required by your Manager and/or the FGR Leadership Team


About You

Person Specification

  • Experience in a safeguarding role

  • Strong documentation and reporting skills

  • Friendly, well organised with the ability to multi-task and perform well under pressure

  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity, reliability, and absolute confidentiality

  • Possess strong time management skills and have a flexible work ethic in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent IT skills (including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to work autonomously and use initiative

  • Works well within a team environment, co-operates with others, considers the needs of others, and helps colleagues achieve their objectives

  • Innovative and committed to continuous improvement

  • Full clean driving license

  • To be able to work on matchday weekends and evenings, including some public holidays

  • Subject to a full DBS Disclosure certification

  • To comply and promote the Club’s policies and procedures to include Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity

  • Understanding of the governance, security and cyber security requirements as General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

  • To undertake required training, including mandatory Club Equality and Diversity and Health and Safety training

  • To adhere to and communicate the Club’s brand values to stakeholders whenever the opportunity arises
