Description

We are excited to be searching for a Content Editor, who will drive the day-to-day management of The FA's websites – namely EnglandFootball.com and TheFA.com – as well as contributing to the organisation's use of operated platforms (i.e. social media accounts).

What will you be doing?

  • Curate and manage informative and editorial content for The FA's two website platforms – EnglandFootball.com and TheFA.com – positioning ourselves as the go-to destination for all things England Football and The FA.

  • Drive forward content optimisation, maintaining best-in-class website standards and search engine optimisation (SEO).

  • Oversee and collaborate with agencies responsible for content creation (i.e. writing of articles), content upload and channel management.

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of cross-platform content plans and schedules, including from ideation/conceptualisation through to publication.

  • Support The FA's communications department and other key internal stakeholders in the optimisation and publication of media releases and news articles.

  • Sourcing of stories and features, delivering quick-turnaround articles that inform, educate and engage audiences.

  • Live event editorial coverage across all England teams and key FA competitions (i.e. Emirates FA Cup and Adobe Women's FA Cup).

  • Constantly analyse the performance of content, campaigns and the overall website platforms to produce regular reports for internal recommendations.

  • Constantly evaluate and adapt our content offering to positively deliver for our commercial partners, engaging and entertaining audiences.

  • Analyse site statistics and user engagement to refine and improve content strategy.

  • Maintain historical database records and consistent site management.

  • Form part of cross-functional working groups to ensure our content/channel strategy and operation supports wider business objectives.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and well-being can be maintained.

  • As part of The FA's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone in football, every employee will be required to complete a DBS check. The level of the check required will be based on the activity of the specific job role and in line with legislation and government guidance.


What are we looking for?

Essential for the role:

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the modern digital publishing landscape, including emerging trends and future opportunities.

  • Thorough knowledge of football, in particular the England national teams, Emirates FA Cup and Adobe Women's FA Cup.

  • Extensive knowledge of SEO tools including Google Analytics.


Experience:

  • A minimum experience of three years working in the media/editorial content industry.

  • Experience of working as part of a multi-functional team to achieve mutual aims and organisational objectives.

  • Comfortable dealing with corporate communications.

  • Flexible approach to working hours and locations – comfortable with the ever-changing landscape of sport.

  • Working within several brand guidelines and tone of voice style guides.


Technical Skills :

  • Strong evidence of creating engaging, entertaining and informative editorial content for a range of audiences.

  • A strong, natural storytelling ability and editorial news sense.

  • Knowledge of website analytics, including key metrics and how to use them to measure performance and make future content decisions.

  • Proficient user of website Content Management Systems (ideally Sitecore).

  • Experience with image-editing software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop).

  • Ability to produce and share short, medium and long-term content plans.

  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.


Beneficial to have:

Knowledge

  • Previous experience in a professional sports or entertainment environment.

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and algorithms.

  • Open to learning new skills, and developing and sharing knowledge.

  • A natural interest in digital media and content.


Experience

  • Previous experience in a professional sports or entertainment environment.

  • Journalism background or similar qualification.

  • Experience working for a big brand, organisation or publisher.

  • Hard-working, flexible and adaptable.

  • Strong work initiative with a 'can do' attitude.

  • Passionate to deliver for audiences.


Technical Skills

  • Understanding of cookies.

  • Open to learning new skills, and developing and sharing knowledge.
