The Position:The Team Physiotherapist is a key member of the medical interdisciplinary team promoting the health and well-being of the players, under the guidance of the Team Doctor and FAI Medical Director.
He/she will assist in providing high level physiotherapy services while developing and implementing the best methods of injury prevention, performance enhancement, rehabilitation, care and advice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the Team Doctor and other members of the medical team to optimise player medical care and performance
- Report directly to the Team Doctor
- Assessment and diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions and the implementation of appropriate treatment and rehabilitation strategies
- Accurate and diligent record keeping of all player treatment interventions through ScribePro
- Pre training management of players including strapping and taping and administration of treatment as required.
- Work with the Team Doctor and coaching staff on training load planning and match preparation
- Delivery of individual and squad-based injury prevention programmes based on screening, past medical history and injury trends
- Work closely with relevant medical and technical staff in implementing strategies to maximising player performance on the football field from a medical perspective
- Reporting of all injuries to the Team Doctor, manager and coaching staff and provide updates on all player’s rehabilitation progress
- Assist the Team Doctor in the provision of emergency medical care and injury management as necessary during training or matches
- Assist in assessing requirements and stock levels in advance of each camp and in providing an order list for all supplies to the Director of International Operations (DIO). This should include physiotherapy, nutritional, performance supplements and hydration supplies
- Assist in assessing and outlining the hotel, training and match day water and ice requirements and communicate to the DIO in advance of each camp
- Assist in packing up all supplies and equipment in advance of each camp and liaise with the Kit Room team and DIO to ensure it is transported to the hotel, training ground, stadium or airport as appropriate
- Assist in maintaining an up to date stock list of kit, equipment and ancillary items to include location (i.e. skip numbers). Work with the medical team to provide an inventory of supplies and equipment as requested by the DIO (note: this may be required well in advance of each camp for flight or customs purposes)
- Assist in setting up the physiotherapy room in the team hotel in advance of players’ arrival and maintain a well organised operation throughout the camp
- Assist in the design of the logistics plan ahead of international travel and adhere to all agreed timelines
- Assist in setting up the changing room in training and match venues in advance of the team’s arrival
- Assist in completing a stock take after each camp and providing an updated stock list to the DIO
- Observe, monitor and react to the ever-evolving world of sports medicine. Keep up to date with all current research developments and changes in professional regulations to ensure the latest clinical, scientific and technical innovations to practice are incorporated into maintaining the highest level of care
- Have a full and detailed knowledge of UEFA and FIFA medical regulations and ensure adherence with relevant competition guidelines, rules and regulations
- Attend meetings pre, during and post camp as requested by the Team Doctor or DIO
- Assist with general team operations as requested by the Team Doctor or DIO
THE PERSON:The successful candidate will have the following:
Qualifications
- BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy
- Masters in Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy
- Knowledge of movement dysfunction analysis and intervention
- Experience in a physiotherapy role within an International or professional sports club
Key Skills and Experience Required
- Expertise in sports rehabilitation and acute injury management
- Experience and expertise in injury prevention methods and recovery strategies
- Competence and knowledge in strapping, taping, soft tissue massage and manual therapy techniques
- Excellent range of clinical treatment skills
- Ability to develop productive relationships with players, backroom team members and with relevant stakeholders within the wider sports medicine community in Ireland
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively to tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment with varying demands
- Good people and communication skills coupled with an ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to work as part of a team, as well as lead on own initiative
- Reliable and a flexible approach to work and working hours
- Ability to maintain absolute discretion in all aspects of the role
