The Role of the B-Team PhysiotherapistAn opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the Medical team at Brentford FC.
The successful applicant will work alongside other Medical and Performance staff to provide support to our B-Team squad of players aged 17-21 years. Working as a part of a multidisciplinary team of staff, this role will offer an opportunity for a Physiotherapist to develop their interest in the management of Musculoskeletal conditions, whilst having the opportunity to contribute to developing the clubs’ overall medical service.
This role will form an integral part of our Academy Medical staffing structure, as the club continues to invest in the development of the Academy over the coming 2-3 seasons.
Management of Injuries
- Provide MSK physiotherapy services for the B-team squad, ensuring effective management of all B-team players with regards to their medical needs.
- Provide treatment and assessment of the B-team squad players.
- In line with clinical responsibility, review and update current processes with regards to injury management, recovery and RTP, supported by medical team members.
- Ensure that accurate medical records are maintained for the delivery of all player treatments/rehabilitation/interventions, enabling production of accurate internal and external injury audit data.
Injury Prevention
- Work alongside B-Team Performance staff to devise and deliver effective injury prevention strategies for the B-team squad.
- Provide objective musculoskeletal screening/profiling for all B-team players and integrate this with the club medical records.
Medical provision at matches/training sessions/tours
- To provide match day cover for B-team and senior Academy games as required.
- To assist the organisation and implementation of the medical provision for all training camps and tours for the B-team.
- To ensure all medical equipment and procedures are regularly reviewed and maintained at the training ground in conjunction with medical team members.
- Assist in daily/weekly safety checks of emergency medical equipment.
Pre-signing Medicals/Consultations
- To assist and organise the pre-signing medical assessments of all B-team and senior Academy players in conjunction with the Club Doctor.
- To produce the pre-signing medical report in conjunction with the Head of Medical/Team Doctor for all potential B-team and Senior Academy players.
- To accompany B-Team and Senior Academy players to medical consultations at short notice either in this country or abroad. Ensuring best practice is followed always and ensuring the player receives optimal care and advice always.
Management Responsibilities
- Lead and take a pro-active role in B-Team staff meetings to discuss progress of injured players and player availability.
- Ensure player appointments are made for consultations and appropriate travel arrangements made.
- Ensure that the Health Partners Insurance Scheme is always informed prior to any appointments being attended.
- Ensure the FA whereabouts information is correct in conjunction with the B-Team Performance staff and relevant administrative staff.
- Take an active role in supporting the development of the club Academy Medical structure as required.

Person Specification - Essential Personal Characteristics
- Undergraduate Degree in Physiotherapy.
- CSP/HCPC Registration.
- Minimum of 2 years post-graduate, ideally within an elite team-sport setting.
- Own transport and clean driving license or the ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role.
- FA ITMMiF qualification as minimum.
- Flexible approach with the ability to work unsociable hours including evenings and weekends.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Enhanced DBS (can be performed prior to commencement of role if required).
- Computer literate and familiar with using IT based medical notes systems
Person Specification - Desirable Characteristics
- Demonstrable experience of academy/youth development football, including providing pitch-side emergency care.
- Knowledge of the Premier League grading system and EPPP requirements.
- Capability to achieve FA ATMMiF, if not already held.
- Postgraduate qualification, or desire to work towards a postgraduate qualification, in a related field.
- Experience of developing and implementing innovative ideas and putting them into practice.
- An understanding of and commitment to fair play and all national and international anti-doping policies as enforced by the Football Association and World Anti-Doping Association
