Job purpose
Cardiff City Academy is an integral part of the Club’s vision. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Cardiff City Academy Coaching Department in a full-time capacity. This role will assist the lead youth development phase coach (12-16yrs) in coordinating person and player development activities within this phase. Particular responsibility for individualised development and day release planning will be a key feature of this role.
Main duties
• The successful candidate will work within a our Youth Development phase and will carry team based coaching responsibilities.
• To be directly responsible to the Academy Manager and Head of Coaching for all matters relating to the organisation and direction of the U12-U16 programme within the Football Academy, with the objective of nurturing outstanding young players to develop into the Club’s scholarship programme.
• To support and where required direct aspects of the Youth Development programme in liaison with the Lead YDP Coach, Academy Manager and Head of Coaching.
• Ensure full compliance with all rules and regulations set by the Football Association, Football League/Premier League and Football Association of Wales.
• To deliver a structured and age-specific coaching syllabus in conjunction with the Academy’s Blueprint.
• Ensure that all players receive appropriate feedback on their development and progress from matches and training in line with the Academy Review Cycle.
• Promote a safe learning environment where individual growth is central in all decision making.
• To organise and support regular (every 6 weeks) player reviews, to include a minimum of two opportunities per season for parent(s)/guardian(s) to discuss the development of their son.
• Ensure that all coaching staff within the YDP are recording and evaluating practice on the Football Intelligence Platform on a weekly basis.
• To support and where required lead the co-ordination of a structured day-release training programme for all U12-U14 players to meet the required criteria in accordance with Football League/Premier League guidelines.
• Establish effective liaison with other Clubs and Leagues.
• Assist in the development of a vibrant Academy programme and liaise with the Academy Manager on key developmental issues.
• Ensure in co-operation with the Academy coaches that a vibrant coaching programme is delivered to cater for every player’s individual and team needs.
• Liaise closely with the Academy Head of Medical; Academy Sport Science Lead and associated personnel on the Detection, Treatment and Rehabilitation of all players aged 12-16 within the schoolboy programme.
• To manage and direct support staff and part-time coaches in the Youth Development Phase in conjunction with Lead YDP Coach, Head of Academy Coaching and Academy Manager
• To always adhere to Academy policies and procedures regarding welfare of minors, always ensuring compliance when dealing with players under the age of 18 years old.
• To comply with terms of reference applicable to all staff as detailed in the Cardiff City FC Employee Handbook.
• To undertake any other duties as directed by the Academy Manager

Essential Desirable
Qualifications BSc (Hons) Degree in related subject or equivalent experience
Valid UEFA A Licence
FA Youth Award (or working towards)
Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) or Equivalent
Valid Enhanced Level DBS Certificate
FA Safeguarding Children Workshop certificate
FA Advanced Youth Award
Masters Degree in a related subject
Experience Experience working in a professional football academy for a minimum of 2 years (FT) or PT equivalent
Experience of working with young players of high potential
Experience working with International age grade players
