Through continued investment in data science and analytics we are testing and refining footballing principles and building solutions that enable key stakeholders and performance practitioners to make better decisions faster.

Operational and strategic football decisions at CFG are heavily reliant upon insights derived from the continuous pipelines of data that are ingested, quality assured, transformed, and incorporated into user-facing solutions every day. Robust data management is therefore crucial to the success of CFG on and off the pitch.

This role will work within our data engineering team, and in close collaboration with data scientists, to deliver robust, efficient, and integrated data solutions, placing the power of our machine learning and statistical models into the hands of key football stakeholders.

Your Impact

  1. Working within the Football Intelligence team alongside a team ofAnalysts& Data Engineers to manage our data collection processes and maintain databases, providing quality assured and optimized data sets ready for football analysis.

  2. Responsibility for maintaining and developing pipelines for landing, ingesting and quality-assuring datasets from a wide variety of providers, working in both SQL and python.

  3. Supporting our data scientists by productionising newly developed models and advising on engineering best practice to improve code efficiency and readability.

  4. Apply engineering best practice to analytics (CI/CD, version control, testing


What we are looking for

Essential

  • Highly competent in SQL and experience with database management.

  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools (such as Azure Data Factory, AWS data pipelines, Apache Airflow) and big data tools (such as Databricks, Spark, Hadoop or similar

  • Highly competent coding in python, and knowledgeable of software engineering best practices, particularly when deploying and productionising statistical and machine learning models.


Desirable

  • Experience working with a variety of sports data related to scouting, football performance, sports science and medicine.
