Role summary

Portsmouth Football Club have created this exciting new part-time position in the club’s academy. Working with a focus on talent identification of Youth Development Phase age players (U12-U14) you will undertake scouting assignments, lead on the collection and management of player information on our scouting database and support the end to end trial process. You will be the principle contact for creating and developing relationships with grassroots clubs and other Premier League/ Football League clubs to ensure identification of players in your age range is actively promoted.

High levels of internal support will be provided to you from the Academy Head of Recruitment who you will report into. You will be expected to collaborate with the Phase Lead and age specific coaching staff to fully understand each squad’s player recruitment needs.

Though most of the weekly working hours will be attending training and games in the evenings and at weekends, there will be a requirement to also work in the academy offices each week to complete all administrative tasks and develop relationships and squad understanding.

Operating within a forward-thinking academy, the role holder will be expected to demonstrate the club values in all aspects of the role and act as a positive role model at all times.

Requirements of the role

  • Responsible for scouting local players from U12-U14 as deemed necessary by the Head of Recruitment and Academy Lead Phase Coaches

  • Agree and deliver on an annual scouting calendar for the age groups in your role

  • Support the management and deployment of Academy Scouts for the U12-14 age groups and ensure effective communication is created with the Academy coaches and Pompey in the Community

  • Using Internal Databases, collect and monitor external U12-U14 players

  • Responsible for the invitation of U12-U14 players to Talent ID events and academy age group trials

  • Regularly view U12-U14 Portsmouth FC academy recorded games on Hudl to support squad understanding

  • Send out weekly trial registers to staff with player updates in your group

  • To be the main point of contact for academy trialist aged U12-U14

  • Awareness of the Club requirements and standards of players as prescribed in the academy performance plan

  • To liaise with the Phase Lead on the progress of Academy players with regards retention and release

  • Attendance at meetings with the Head of Recruitment and Phase Lead to discuss all areas of player recruitment

  • The role will be based at various locations in and around Portsmouth and the surrounding area. It is essential that the role holder lives within a 30 mile radius of Portsmouth and has a full driving licence with frequent access to a vehicle given the need to travel to various game venues.

  • Right to work in the UK and enhanced DBS check


Essential Qualifications & Experience

The appointed coaches must have successfully attained:

  • FA Talent ID level 1

  • FA Safeguarding certificate

  • Have +1 year previous or current experience of recruitment in a professional club’s academy for players aged 11-14 years

  • Can demonstrate pre-established contacts and relationships with local clubs in and around Portsmouth

  • IT competency with Microsoft products


Desirable qualifications & experience:

  • FA Talent ID 2

  • Hudl user experience
